It has been three months since Hollywood's most creative voices walked out of the writer's room—and one month since actors joined the picket lines—but the harsh effects of the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strike are starting to take center stage. Not only is fresh content starting to dry up, but the walkout is also causing some of the biggest stars to make some serious real estate moves. Case in point: actor Billy Porter.

"I have to sell my house," the multihyphenate said in an interview with the Evening Standard. "Yeah! Because we're on strike. And I don't know when we're gonna go back."

The Pose star points out that, despite the glitz and glamour, most creatives live paycheck to paycheck. "I was supposed to be in a new movie and on a new television show starting in September," he says. "None of that is happening. So to the person who said, 'We're going to starve them out until they have to sell their apartments'—you've already starved me out."

Not much is known about Porter's property—much to our dismay, he hasn't live-streamed a home tour on his Instagram account—but the details we do have make this inevitable listing particularly sad. The Kinky Boots alum reportedly purchased his 4,500-square-foot Long Island home in 2020 with his estranged husband.

Not only was this acquisition the first home he has ever bought, but he also told Condé Nast Traveller in 2021 that it's the place he felt "the happiest." "It's a 10-minute walk from the beach and it's on an acre of land," he added.

In July, several studio executives broke down the industry's "cruelty but necessary" approach to the strike to Deadline. "The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses," one source told the publication. While we hope the tides will turn—and Porter can keep his home—this may be the first of many moves to come.
