Billy Porter arrived in an extravagant feather train at the 2020 Golden Globes—and we're literally dying

We can always count on Billy Porter to arrive in overstated style. He showed up to the 2019 Golden Globes in an embellished suit and a matching cape with a surprise hot pink underside, which became very essential every time he needed to strike a pose. This year, the Pose star is bringing the drama and giving us an incredible feather train moment.

The all-white ensemble was designed by Alex Vinash, and it geniusly combines fashion with practicality so Porter can zip off the feather train for the sit-down portion of the night. The look is completed with Jimmy Choo shoes and Tiffany jewels.

In his interview with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, Porter explained that the look took three months to create, a process that started before he even knew that he had earned a nomination. Porter said it’s “odd to work on clothes before you’re even nominated” but the process was all part of putting the hope into the universe—and we are so glad the universe was listening.

Tonight, Porter is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series—Drama for his role in Pose. The actor told Seacrest how much this show and everything it stands for mean to him and all those out there watching, especially Black queer youth. Porter’s look tonight and his nomination represent him being able to share his “authentic self,” which hasn’t always been the case. “I’m so grateful that I’ve lived long enough to see who I am resonate in the way that it is…because it wasn’t always like that,” Porter told Seacrest.
