All good things must come to an end, and today that means Billy Miller (a.k.a. Drew Cain)'s five-year run on General Hospital.

Billy, who first came to GH after six years on The Young and the Restless, announced that he was leaving via a tweet from his manager Marnie Sparer's account on Sunday night. The news comes weeks after speculation about his departure first emerged.

The statement reads:

With a slight air of sadness, it is time to ponder what "goodbye" means. However, instead of dwelling on what is gone and sure to be missed, there is another way. Maybe our goodbye is really a remembrance of love felt, an appreciation for lives shared, and the lifelong reminisces that come from embraces and received. Maybe our goodbye is an earnest hope for the brightest path forward for us all. Now, instead of sadness, I am filled with gratitude for all your support, encouragement, and every emotion shared. I cherish the journey we have taken together. Thank you for allowing me into your home and lives. With every ounce of myself, I thank you for being you. I would be remiss in this crazy, unpredictable world we all love so much if I did not hold out the possibility that maybe our goodbye is really "until next time." ... All My Love, Billy Miller.

After seeing the tweet, Billy's fans rushed to share how much they were going to miss him on the show.

"Thanks for everything as always, I am not crying. I really am not. Sure I am ... He has a place in our hearts forever," one viewer said. "Such a class act. Thank you for the amazing 4 years. I’m following you out the door and can’t wait to see you shine in whatever comes next," another tweeted.

Why did Billy decide to leave the ABC daytime drama? According to recent hearsay, the actor may be going back to reprise his old role as Billy Abbot on The Young and the Restless. Of course, that theory hasn't yet been confirmed, so it could just be that Billy is ready to move on to other projects. His IMDB indicates that this year he also started working on the TV series Truth Be Told.

As of today, it's not clear how many episodes of Drew GH fans have left. If Billy did stop filming last week though, it's predicted that he'll exit the show in mid-August.

For now, all fans can do is savor every Drew appearance. It really will be a sad day when he moves off the series. But who knows ... maybe, just maybe, this isn't a permanent goodbye.
