Billy Eichner and Judd Apatow are working on a gay rom-com, and it's a big deal

In perhaps the best news of 2019, we just found out that Billy on the Street star Billy Eichner will write and star in an upcoming romantic comedy with Universal. The untitled rom-com will be directed by Neighbors and Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nick Stoller and produced by Judd Apatow. Eichner took to Twitter on February 5th to confirm the news, writing, “Excited, terrified, completely in shock and PROUD as hell to announce this movie. We’re making a big, new romantic comedy for Universal!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!”

The untitled project will “center around two men who have commitment problems and are attempting a relationship,” Deadline reports. We’re so excited we could take to the streets with a microphone and scream—Billy on the Street style, of course. And the significance was not lost on fans. One Twitter user wrote, “A romantic comedy about gay men by a MAJOR studio written by and starring a gay man? This is pretty huge… wow. You’re amazing, Billy.” The Parks and Recreation alum responded with, “Well I hate when people say ‘my heart is full’ but my heart is fucking full. Don’t worry, it won’t last.”

Before then, Eichner will star in Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, slated for a July 19th release. The three-time Emmy nominee will also star alongside Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader in Noelle, an upcoming family fantasy film.

A release date for the untitled rom-com has not yet been announced, but needless to say, our hearts are so f@#king full.
