Billy Baldwin, the brother of fellow actors AlecStephen and Daniel Baldwin, is speaking out to address the newest update in the Long Island serial killings case—as well as the unlikely connection he has to the suspect.

On Thursday, July 13, police finally arrested a suspect in connection with the infamous Gilgo Beach murders in Long Island, New York, after the bodies of four sex workers were found in a marsh back in 2010. The remains of at least 10 people have since been uncovered in the area, though no arrest had been made in connection with the case for over a decade—until now.

Multiple sources, including CBS News have confirmed that the suspect, a 59-year-old man by the name of Rex Heuermann, was taken into custody on Thursday night, a major development in the case that has gripped the nation for over ten years.

And for Billy, a New York native, this close-to-home story just got a whole lot more personal.

The actor took to Instagram on Friday to share a photo of Heuermann, while revealing that the two once attended the same high school together.

"Shocked to learn this morning that the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect was my high school classmate Rex Heuermann," Billy, 60, wrote in his caption.

He went on to state the name of their shared alma mater, Berner High School in Massapequa, NY, where they were both apparently members of the Class of 1981.

Describing Heuermann as "Married, two kids, architect," Billy called the new development "mind-boggling."

"Massapequa is in shock," he added, quipping, "23andMe strikes again???"

Some of Billy's followers criticized his decision to make a post about Heuermann's arrest, considering he is only a suspect, as of right now.

But according to police, authorities "anticipate an indictment" later on Friday, when the suspect is scheduled to be arraigned, per NBC News.
