If you heard me shrieking from the backseat of an Uber around 1:26 pm on Sunday afternoon, no you didn't. That was the exact moment that I opened my phone and was smacked directly in the face with a blonde-haired, lingerie-clad Billie Eilish–a sight I never thought I would see.

Though I've been predicting a new era of Billie style for weeks now, nothing and no one could have prepared me for the drastic change that was to come. The pop star shared her new cover spread for British Vogue, in which she wore nothing other than latex gloves, sheer stockings, and a range of body-hugging, waist-snatching corsets.

Looking like a modern-age Marilyn Monroe, Billie was the embodiment of 1940s glamour. Though the 19-year-old has intentionally worn oversized clothing for most of her career in an attempt to avoid judgement and sexualization, she chose to flaunt her figure on one of the most famous magazines in the world. Don't get it twisted, though: Billie is sending a message.

The vintage-y boudoir shoot was conceptualized by Billie herself and the point behind it is an important one. Similar to her choice to hide her body from the public, Billie wants to emphasize that it's also her right to reveal it in any way shape or form she chooses.

"It's all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f**k it–if you feel like you look good, you look good."

According to Billie, though the shoot's focus on corsets was meant to conceal her "deepest insecurity," to help her feel more confident and comfortable. "If I'm honest with you, I hate my stomach, and that's why," Billie said.

"'If you're about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn't you show your actual body?'," she said mimicking critics. "My thing is that I can do whatever I want."

And that choice–to show it off or not–should not impact your opinions of her. "Don't make me not a role model because you're turned on by me," Billie said. "Showing your body and showing your skin–or not–should not take any respect away from you."

The jaw-dropping cover was released only days after her newest song release. "Your Power" is a sorrowful tune that asks men to take a closer look at the way they wield their power against often underaged girls. These messages, Billie says, go hand-in-hand.

"'You're going to complain about being taken advantage of as a minor, but then you're going to show your boobs?'," she says, again impersonating critics who are sure to come for her. "Yes I am, motherf**ker! I'm going to because there's no excuse."
