Billie Eilish’s Sprawling Back Tattoo Incites Mixed Reactions and Memes

Billie Eilish is showing off her newest ink in a post on her social media and many don't know what to think about the addition to her tattoo arsenal.
The 21-year-old posted a carousel of photos on her Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 18, featuring moments from her life lately. Hidden amongst snapshots of her shoes, her dog, a hoard of carved pumpkins and more was an in-progress shot of the full-back piece which featured a unique, organic design of swirls and jagged lines kind of resembling the patterns within a fingerprint that appears to spread all the way from the base of her neck to the bottom of her back.
A few weeks ago, Eilish revealed a sneak peek of the finished, filled-in tattoo, showing that it actually continues up the back of her neck to just underneath her hairline, and fans aren't holding back in their strong opinions of the distinctive design.
After the photo of the in-progress tattoo began circulating online, there were many hilarious reactions to the snapshot, with one person writing on X, "Maybe i'm just not understanding the vision? Idk...."

A popular response was from someone who said, "me tracing the lines of my desk in middle school when I’m bored," with another replying, "I knew it reminded me of something."

"I thought this was a stranger things portal💀😭," read a top-liked comment.
Someone else reacted, "It looks like how I test whether my pen is working or not on the back of my notebook," before a different user declared, "Not gonna lie. I kind of fw it."
Many fans came to Eilish's defense, pointing out that the photo shows the tattoo not finished or cleaned up, with the ink still smeared around it from the tattooing process: "i just wanna know if u ppl know how tats work. it doesn’t even look like this now im CRYING."
"comments are lame as f--k this goes hard. 'what is it even supposed to be durr hurr' it's supposed to look dope and it does," wrote another fan of the ink.
The new back tattoo joins Eilish's growing collection of tattoos. She already has a large dragon tattoo on her thigh and up her hip, while she previously shared in an interview that she has two other tattoos as well of fairies and her name.
