Bill Murray Celebrates UConn NCAA National Championship Win After Crashing Game

Bill Murray made a memorable guest appearance at Monday night’s NCAA Men’s Championship game in Arizona, where UConn’s Huskies prevailed over Purdue’s Boilermakers 75–60 to clinch the national title for the second year in a row. As some fans are aware, Murray’s son, Luke, serves as an assistant coach for UConn.

The Lost In Translation star was seen at the end of the game congratulating his son with a warm embrace and a few kind words.

Murray then joined Luke and his family on stage to celebrate the win, posing for a few photos and hugging team members. At one point, Murray picked up the NCAA trophy and walked across the stage, holding it up for the crowd, before handing the prize back to Luke. After returning the award, a beaming Murray appeared to tell his son, “That was cool."

The Ghostbusters actor also played a vital role in UConn’s self-esteem throughout the game, cheering the team on during many appearances on the Jumbotron at State Farm Stadium.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees was likewise in attendance to rep his alma mater, Purdue. As such, he and Murray served as their respective team ambassadors for the night. At one point, the two engaged in a furious muscle flexing competition to see who was the stronger celeb.

Murray has been a frequent guest at Luke’s previous games when he coached for the Xavier Musketeers and Louisville Cardinals. UConn head coach Dan Hurley conceded on Monday that it’s likely Luke will leave the team soon to pursue a head coaching job elsewhere.

The championship win was the second in a row for UConn, who are tied with North Carolina for the third most NCAA titles of all time. The Huskies won their last seven games of the season before dominating in the championships, giving the Murrays plenty to celebrate.
