The Cannes Film Festival’s main red carpet, where stars come to debut their latest films, is all about dressing up in glitzy gowns and suits. But at the Cannes photo calls, things get a little more relaxed fashion-wise (think: Marion Cotillard in bike shorts or Jane Birkin in Converse). But allow Bill Murray to show exactly how casual Cannes style should be done: Today, at a photocall for his film The French Dispatch, Murray leaned into his signature quirky look. Forget a tired suit and tie—eccentricity is in!

Looking like he’s ready for a Hawaiian vacation or a day at the golf course, Murray slipped into a short-sleeved button down with clashing prints, baby blue shorts, and brimmed Fedora hat. He also sported a sensible pair of On running sneakers, which were perfect for animatedly moving around the event and striking a series of cheeky poses. The wacky outfit was even more of a statement set against some of his co-stars, who played the traditional Hollywood game and dressed up: Tilda Swinton, for instance, wore a striking blue Haider Ackermann suit.

At yesterday’s premiere for the film, Murray did suit up in a classic black tux—but the relaxed photocall look today feels much more authentic to his signature style. We love that Murray continues to play by his own fashion rules, no matter the setting. That makes him a true red carpet winner in our books.
