Bill Burr makes his live-action directorial debut with comedy Old Dads, which releases today on Netflix. The comedian spoke about the film and fielded questions in a featurette on Netflix’s news site.

“This movie’s basically based on me and what I’m dealing with,” says Burr about the movie, which follows three dads struggling to let go of the ‘80s and navigate a modern world.

Burr stars as Jack, an out-of-touch father who struggles to fit in at his son’s progressive preschool.

“Jack represents the part of me that’s trying to be a better person,” says Burr, after a clip from the film showing Jack angrily confront a smug teacher for being condescending.

In another scene, we see Burr on a road trip with a millennial. “Filming yourself while you’re flipping over water bottles. Incredible progress,” deadpans Burr.

He’s got more than preschool teachers on his plate, however. The film centers on Burr’s battle with a brash CEO (Miles Robbins), who takes over Burr’s family business in efforts to turn it into a “gender-neutral, carbon-neutral 21st-century lifestyle apparel brand.”

See how he gets on in Old Dads on Netflix now. While this one safely hit its launch date, the Deadpool 3 delay could prove costly.
