2024 is packed with incredible TV. Whether you’ve got your eyes on the new season of a returning show, like Bridgerton and House of the Dragon, or you’re looking forward to the premiere of a future favorite, like Fallout or The Acolyte, here’s everything you need to watch this year across all platforms.

Max

This might be the fourth season of True Detective, but you don’t need to have seen the previous three. Like Fargo, it’s a crime anthology, with each entry a standalone, self-contained story. This time we’re heading to the freezing wastes of Alaska where, amidst the almost perpetual darkness and biting blizzards, a serial killer strikes. Jodie Foster plays the dogged detective on the hunt for them.

Netflix

With One Piece doing numbers, Netflix is adapting another hugely popular Japanese series into live-action. Out in February, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows Aang, a young boy with the rare ability to control air. He has to master all four elements, including water, earth, and fire, in order to restore balance to a divided world threatened by the violent Fire Nation.

Apple

The stacked cast of this Band of Brothers companion series features Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Ncuti Gatwa, Callum Turner and Raff Law (son to Jude). They form the United States’ 100th Bombardment Group, who experience life and death drama both on the ground and in the air. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg produce.

Paramount

The first season of Paramount’s video game adaption didn’t set the world on fire, but season 2 looks to do the legendary Xbox sci-fi shooter justice - by literally setting the world on fire, as shown in the debut trailer. It’ll also introduce a fan favorite character in Arbiter, a disgraced member of the the Covenant race tasked with hunting down part-human super soldier Master Chief.

Netflix

Bridgerton viewers are in for a staggered release this summer, as season three releases in two parts. Part one of the England-set Regency-era drama lands 16 May, while part 2 drops 13 June, giving you enough time to cool down from the steamy period hijinks. It highlights a blossoming love story between Penelope (Lady Whistledown) and Colin.

Netflix

Another one of Netflix’s most successful shows in the platform’s history returns as the sour-faced Adams Family daughter fights battles both fantastical and familial. With Jenna Ortega back for another year at Nevermore Academy, Netflix will be hoping for another smash (the first broke Stranger Things season 4's viewing records).

Netflix

Season 2 of Netflix’s biggest ever show is due to launch this year. Though there’s no release date yet, the full cast has already been confirmed. In the first season, we saw debt-ridden members of society compete in a murderous game show to earn a life-changing cash prize. Its lone survivor, Gi-hun, is now back to enact revenge on the game’s creators.

Disney

Potentially THE Star Wars show to watch in 2024. The Acolyte is a prequel set way before the events of the main films in an era called the High Republic. According to early reports it’s a space-based crime procedural setting up the secretive dark powers that are emerging to divide the galaxy. Squid Game's Lee Jung-jae stars alongside The Good Place's Manny Jacinto.

Amazon Prime Video

There are high hopes for Amazon Prime Video’s adaption of the hit video game series. Set 200 years after a nuclear war has decimated the globe, the remnants of humanity now live underground in vast subterranean vaults. What sounds glum actually has its fair share of glee, with the trailer rife with high-tempo spectacle (irradiated newts, mutated cowboys) set to quaint ‘50s tunes.

Max

Colin Farrell stole the show 2022's The Batman as notorious Gotham crime lord The Penguin, which explains why he’s back in the extensive facial prosthetics for an HBO Max spinoff series. It’s an eight-episode origin story exploring the man known as Oswald Cobblepot's rise through the criminal underworld.
