The Golden Globes’ 2024 nominees — aside from their viral performances, craft and aesthetics — can also be credited with a slew of viral footwear moments.

Throughout the year, most of the movies and television shows nominated for the next year’s ceremony included fashion-forward takes to costuming and dress — many of which impacted the fashion world at large. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” played a key role in spawning the all-pink “Barbiecore” trend, simultaneously playing into the popularity of Birkenstocks and glamorous high heels. Meanwhile, “Air” embraced the retro Nike sneakers of the ’80s, while Taylor Swift put dynamic glamour front and center for her “Eras Tour” concert film — thanks to bejeweled boots from Christian Louboutin.

‘Barbie’ Birkenstocks and High-Glam Heels

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” grew increasingly viral throughout the year, surpassing the $1 billion mark in ticket sales in August (just over two weeks after its July 21 release). Within the movie, numerous scenes featured an array of shoe moments that quickly went viral. Robbie’s “Barbie feet” swept the Internet upon her stepping out of pink crystal-trimmed mules in the trailer, while her character’s choice between Birkenstock sandals or heels also became a hallmark of the film.

Taylor Swift’s Bejeweled ‘Eras Tour’ Louboutin Boots

Throughout the North American run of her ongoing “Eras” world tour, Taylor Swift was seen on numerous occasions in custom pairs of crystal-covered Christian Louboutin boots. Several pairs in hues of silver, dark blue, black and pink, which matched the star’s coordinating ensembles styled by Joseph Cassell Falconer, could be seen in her “Eras Tour” film. The movie has been nominated for the Globes’ new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Trophy, awarded to a film that made $100 million domestically and $150 million globally.

Retro Sneakers From ‘Air’

“Air” — the Air Jordan origin drama, which received nods for both Best Picture and Best Actor trophies in the Musical or Comedy genre — naturally included an array of footwear-centric moments, particularly the creation of the first Air Jordan sneaker in 1985. The film also included cameos of styles including the Blazer, Waffle and Air Pegasus 83, according to Fashionista.

The ‘Quiet Luxury’ Sneakers of “Succession”

Throughout the final season of HBO Max’s drama “Succession,” the wealthy Roy family was frequently referenced as a hallmark in the “quiet luxury” trend, which utilizes minimal pieces from high-end brands favored by the upper class. The show frequently included sneakers, loafers and heels in various silhouettes — with most prominently featuring neutral colors and brands including Tom Ford, Valentino and Zegna, making them key styles within the style movement.
