With the recent announcement of the 2024 Grammy nominations come the inevitable Grammy snubs.
LGBTQ+ artists including Miley Cyrus, Victoria Monét, boygenius, and Brandy Clark all scored six or more nominations this year, once again proving that queer people make some of the best music out there.
While a ton of our queer faves scored much-deserved nominations this year, some of our other favorites were, unfortunately, left out of the mix. Here’s a look at seven of those biggest LGBTQ+ Grammy snubs.
1. Sam Smith
Smith won a Grammy last year for their song “Unholy” with Kim Petras, but this year when they released the terrific album Gloria. We would’ve loved to see Gloria get some love in the Album of the Year or Pop Album of the Year categories.
2. Reneé Rapp
We love Reneé Rapp. The actor and Broadway star released her debut album Snow Angel this year to wide critical acclaim. She definitely deserved to get a Best New Artist nom, and even deserved a Best Pop Album nom as well.
3. Chappell Roan
Another artist we would’ve loved to see in the Best New Artist conversation is queer singer Chappell Roan. Her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess introduced a strong new voice to the pop world and deserves Grammy attention.
4. Doechii
Bisexual rapper Doechii’s song “What It Is (Block Boy) was one of the best and most viral R&B songs of the year, but she unfortunately didn’t get any Grammy noms this year.
5. 100 gecs
100 gecs have been pushing boundaries in music for years, but have never gotten the Grammy attention they deserve. Their album 10,000 gecs was one of the best of the year, and songs like “Hollywood Baby” and “Dumbest Girl Alive” definitely could’ve been nominated for Alternative and Rock song.
6. Theater Camp
Four out of the five songs for Best Song Written for Visual Media come from the Barbie soundtrack, and that’s not a surprise. Still, we would’ve loved to see some space made for the Theater Camp soundtrack, with its terrific song “Camp Isn’t Home.”
7. Hayley Kiyoko
Hayley Kiyoko’s collaboration with Steve Aoki and Galantis "Hungry Heart" is a beautiful love song about her girlfriend Becca Tilley and was a huge dance hit this year. Kiyoko is a great artist, and this song should’ve gotten her her first Grammy nomination.
