March madness is now behind us, which saw many big, and small, game releases. Heavy hitters like Dragon’s Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, and the PC port of Horizon Forbidden West kept gamers busy, and the fun isn’t stopping in April. This month will see a good mix of big AAA titles and smaller, cozy indie games.

April’s biggest games include titles like Stellar Blade, Sand Land, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, and more. This month will also see more former Xbox exclusives like Grounded and Sea of Thieves hit other platforms like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Here are the biggest games releasing in April.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions - April 8 (PC)

Mooncube Games

Mooncube Games

What if Lo-Fi hip hop wasn’t just a YouTube livestream, but a video game? That’s basically what Spirit City: Lofi Sessions is all about. It features some light life sim mechanics to give you something to do while calming music plays in the background, which you can collect in the world to increase your library of songs. Like Animal Crossing, you can customize your virtual space however you see fit, with a handy list of activities to engage in while relaxing to the beats. Spirit City: Lofi Sessions releases on April 8 on Steam, and you can check it out with its free demo live now.

Biomorph - April 5 (PC)

Biomorph may look like a standard 2D metroidvania, but it has a cool twist - every time you kill an enemy, you shapeshift into them along with absorbing their abilities. The game’s AI system constantly has its enemies learn new moves so even if you kill the same grunt, they’ll find new ways to challenge you. Its controls and exploration are reminiscent of Hollow Knight, and who can say no to anything inspired by Hollow Knight? The demo shows promise and with a little bit of polish, we might have the next cult Metroidvania hit on our hands. Biomorph releases on April 5 on Steam.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau - April 23

EA

EA

Tales of Kenzera is being developed by a new team, led by Abukar Salim, who played the fan-favorite Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins. The single-player 2D Metroidvania adventure will feature an emotionally charged tale about Zau, a young boy who bargains with the God of Death to resurrect his father. Tales of Kenzera: Zau releases on April 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch consoles.

Contra: Operation Galuga - April 14

Konami

Konami

Old-school gamers can look forward to Contra: Operation Galuga, which revives the franchise with a new visual style and 4-player co-op in its arcade mode. It will feature updated graphics, sounds, new levels, and an updated weapons system when it launches on April 14 for the Nintendo Switch.

Harold Halibut - April 16

Slow Bros.

Slow Bros.

Harold Halibut has climbed the ranks of our wishlists to become one of 2024’s most anticipated games. Featuring a unique claymation style, it is a narrative game about friendship on a city-sized spaceship. You can try out a demo for Harold Halibut before its release on April 16 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Grounded - April 16

Obsidian Entertainment

Obsidian Entertainment

Obsidian Entertainment is known for its narratively heavy RPG games, but Grounded is a different kind of game. It’s basically “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” if it was a multiplayer survival game. The new “Fully Yoked” update will add new content such as Ant Queens, a remixed backyard in the New Game+ mode, Japanese voiceovers, new achievements, and more when it releases on April 16 for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - April 23

505 Games

505 Games

What's better than one playable hero? A hundred heroes. Eiyuden Chronicle will feature that many in the HD 2D adventure. Being a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, the game is set in Allraan, where the Galdean Empire has surpassed other nations thanks to the discovery of new technology. It's a game about warring nations, with players being able to experience the perspectives of many who take part in it. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes releases on April 23 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Sand Land - April 26

Bandai Namco

Bandai Namco

If you're a fan of Akira Toriyama's works, then Sand Land will be right up your alley. Although it is somewhat confusingly named after the recent anime, the game follows the same story beats. You can try it out for free with a demo, with exclusive rewards to claim in the final game if you play it. Sand Land releases on April 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Stellar Blade - April 26

Shift Up / Sony

Shift Up / Sony

After playing Stellar Blade’s recent demo, it has generated a lot of interest from players with many looking forward to it as their most anticipated game. Shift Up’s upcoming action-adventure game takes inspiration from the DMC and Nier franchises, with combat that will satisfy Souls fans. With no major sequels to PS5 exclusive franchises releasing this year, Stellar Blade is the biggest game on PS5, until PlayStation announces its lineup for the latter half of 2024.

Sea of Thieves - April 30 (PS5)

Rare

Rare

Sea of Thieves has quietly become one of Xbox’s biggest games, with a passionate player base. Its PS5 port will act as a healthy boost to the game’s welcoming community. The game topped pre-order charts on the PlayStation Store, beating other big games of the year like Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree edition. After the failure of Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones, many people are looking forward to a good pirate game, and Sea of Thieves should deliver on that promise.
