The Bigger, Cosmic Meaning Behind Wearing Silver to Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour

The metallic hue is especially meaningful for Virgos.

ICYMI: Beyoncé asked the attendees of her Renaissance World Tour to dress in silver during the final tour dates, which happen to coincide with Virgo season — the astrological sign of Bey herself. While many fans are wrapping their heads around Bey’s birthday wish (and scrambling to find the perfect look), what they may not realize is that there’s a bigger meaning behind the choice, aside from simply creating a stadium-sized disco ball.

"Virgo season is upon us. This tour has been such a joy and as we approach the last month, my birthday wish is to celebrate with you wearing your most fabulous silver fashions to the show 8.23 – 9.22," Beyoncé wrote in a note to fans on Instagram. "We'll surround ourselves in a shimmering human disco ball each night. Everybody mirroring each other's joy, Virgo season together in the House of Chrome. See you there!"

As Bey says, it’s all about joy. But on a cosmic level, what does wearing silver mean?

The Meaning Behind Wearing Silver

According to psychic medium, tarot reader, and fellow Virgo Sarah Potter, “This is a highly reflective color that helps us to peacefully go within, tap into our emotions and enhance the power of our intuition. If you are having some trouble listening to your own inner wisdom or want to step back from your busy social calendar for a little introspection, this is the color for you.” Plus, says Potter, “It’s also highly protective and enhances our energetic boundaries.”

In other words, silver is a form of protection against negative vibes and harm — think of it as wearing an evil eye in color form. It brings clarity and power to those who wear it, as well as acting as a mirror to our innermost sentiments and soulful intentions. It’s also known to be a super manifestor, meaning it helps us bring our passions and aspirations to fruition faster.

In a more practical sense, silver is said to bring balance and calming spirits. “As a Virgo who is also a city dweller, I reach for something silver to bring in a sense of etheric balance when I’m going out somewhere that is sure to be high energy and crowded, like a high energy concert filled with people dancing and singing along to Beyoncé,” adds Potter.

All of these meanings could be why Beyoncé would ask fans to wear the shiny color. Surrounding herself amongst thousands of people in silver could act as a way of evoking positivity — which, for a performer, is crucial. Think back to her original statement, where she says it mirrors energy: That’s not coincidental. Plus, silver is a great color for Virgos in particular, since it brings them abundance and happiness.

Renaissance in Retrograde

PSA: There will be seven planets moving in backwards motion during Virgo season. With all these planetary retrogrades occurring, Beyoncé might be asking her fans to wear the color silver as a shield from the chaos and problems that can occur when several planets are moonwalking in the sky — especially Mercury retrograde in Virgo, as it’s in alignment with her Sun sign. As we know, Mercury retrograde can cause all sorts of havoc, so any sort of protection, sartorial or otherwise, is welcome.

Not only that, but the lunar energy is poised to be super intense during this time too. A rare Super Blue Moon in Pisces is rising on August 30, coinciding with the Renaissance tour stop at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The last Blue Moon was in 2021, and the last Super Blue Moon was in 2018 — which means that emotions will be running high on this day.

The New Moon in Virgo on September 14 (when Bey stops at Lumen Field in Seattle) will also be an intense day, due to the Mercury-ruled lunation. However Mercury turns direct the following day, ending any drama that might ensue. The Autumnal Equinox on September 23 is a time that thins the veil between the spiritual and physical world, so Beyoncé might feel as though she needs extra safeguarding at that moment in time. But as luck (or the stars) would have it, she’ll be in her hometown of Houston for the occasion.

The last Super Full Moon of 2023, the Harvest Moon, occurs in Aries on September 29, two days before the final stop of the Renaissance World Tour in Kansas City, bringing confidence and self-love back after a whirlwind of a summer.

I’d like to think Beyoncé’s request of wearing silver is her way of giving back the love she receives to her fans. After all, Virgos show their love through acts of service — and that’s exactly what she does through performing. Personally, I will be wearing silver in solidarity — who doesn’t want to show off their fandom and help bring the universe into harmony? Alexa, play "Virgo’s Groove," it's time to dance.
