Big Sky's New Tram Cabins Complete 5,000 Mile Journey

Big Sky Resort, MT has been working for nearly two years on the new and improved Lone Peak Tram.

The resort reached a significant milestone on August 28th, 2023, when both tram cabins completed their 5,000+ mile journey from Switzerland. The journey started 37 days ago. Check out the delivery in the video provided by Big Sky Resort below:

More details from the press release sent to Powder by Big Sky Resort:

"The eagle(s) have landed.

Following a 37-day journey from Olten, Switzerland, both of the Lone Peak Tram cabins have arrived safely in Big Sky. The cabins were greeted in traditional Big Sky fashion with a local bull moose temporarily stopping traffic as they made their way to their final destination.

The 6,615-pound cabins arrived by boat in Port Hueneme, California, before being loaded on a truck for delivery to Big Sky.

The cabins will travel up to 300 feet off the ground when installed on the haul ropes, and each include 12 seats and a glass floor panel for viewing during the summer."

Big Sky is planning to open the new Lone Peak Tram this upcoming winter. It will dramatically change the way skiers and snowboarders access the resort's defining feature for years to come.
