Big Sky Starts Independence Day With Fresh Summer Snowfall

Big Sky Resort, Montana is known for being one of the largest ski resorts on the continent. The resort's iconic Lone Peak towers above the surrounding landscape at over 11,000 feet above sea level.

It's not entirely uncommon for Big Sky to see accumulating snowfall at higher elevations all 12 months of the year. In fact, snow just fell near the summit of Lone Peak yesterday, July 4th, 2023.

Check out the time-lapse video below of snow dusting Lone Peak in the early-morning hours of Independence Day.

That certainly wasn't a lot of snow, but it's not too shabby for the 4th of July, no?

Big Sky is in full summer mode with mountain biking, hiking, and other warm-weather activities going on across the resort.

Meanwhile, crews are working daily to construct the new Lone Peak Tram, a massive undertaking that involves building two cranes at 11,000+ feet above sea level using a Chinook helicopter.
