Big Sky Resort Blanketed In White After Season's First Snowfall

The train of early-season snow in Montana continues to roll forward.

Yesterday, September 21st, Big Sky announced that it had received its first snowfall of the season, sharing wintry images of crews working on the new Lone Peak Tram.

Despite the snow, work on the new Lone Peak Tram -- slated for opening this upcoming winter -- continues. I imagine the construction crews are less excited about the wintry weather than skiers. Working on top of a massive piece of metal in a snowstorm doesn't sound particularly pleasant.

Elsewhere in the state, several other resorts, like Lost Trail and Whitefish, also enjoyed their first seasonal snowfalls. While forecasters like NOAA predict Montana could be in for a warm and dry season, I'm hoping these early storms indicate that the state could buck the trend.

As a Montana resident, I'm invested. Utah and California got the goods last season, so why don't some of those record-breaking storms head our way for a change? I'll keep my fingers firmly crossed.
