Big Sky Announces Opening Day For New Lone Peak Tram

The time has come. Or, rather, the time is coming.

Big Sky Resort, Montana, has announced the official opening date for its new Lone Peak Tram, which will include a charity auction to determine who snags the first 45 seats on the tram's historic inaugural ride uphill. Auction winners will also be treated to champagne at the top of Lone Mountain -- swanky -- and a "special memento."

The updated Lone Peak Tram opens on December 19th.

The online seat auction opened yesterday, November 1st, and will continue until November 15th. To participate and learn more details, click here.

100% of the proceeds from the auction will benefit three non-profits: the Big Sky Community Organization, the Gallatin River Task Force, and the Morningstar Learning Center.

As for Lone Peak opening day festivities, the auction-winners-only ride kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on December 19th, with the tram's official public opening at 10:30 a.m. Coffee and treats will be on hand, and live music performers will hold it down at the Mountain Village Plaza.

With the arrival of the new tram comes changes to tram access and availability and Big Sky. Previously, skiers at Big Sky were singularly billed for a full day of tram use. Now, during the 2023-2024 winter season, they'll have to pay per ride on the new tram. Some Big Sky pass products come pre-loaded with tram rides. The resort anticipates that the cost per ride will vary day-by-day between $10 and $40+. Big Sky has more information on the payment changes here.

Tram aside, Big Sky plans to open for skiing and riding on Wednesday, November 22nd.

But that's enough of the nitty gritty.

All I'm really concerned about is the first time that the following video is recreated on the new tram. Only then will the new tram officially be a part of Big Sky -- at least in my admittedly immature opinion.
