“Big Man” J.J. Watt Breaks 5-Year-Old Fan’s Bike, Promises to Replace It

There are many words you could use to describe J.J. Watt: talented, generous, humble, etc. Small probably isn’t one of them.

It’s his impressive size that landed the 6′ 5″ 289-pound defensive lineman for the Houston Texans in a delicate situation on Monday.

The Green Bay Packers have a training camp tradition of borrowing young fans' bicycles and riding them to practice. The Texans have been practicing with the Packers ahead their preseason-opening game at Lambeau Field on Thursday, which meant Watt, a Wisconsin native, finally had the chance to participate in the annual bike ride.

Watt ended up borrowing the bike of five-year-old Packers fan Biraj Sadhu. The kid-sized bike, unfortunately, didn’t survive the trek. The seat ended up breaking as Watt got closer to the field.

"OK, it's not big-man approved," Watt joked as he picked up the bike and carried it over his shoulder. Biraj, who walked next to him carrying Watt's helmet, didn’t seem to mind.

"It was pretty awesome until I broke the bike," Watt, 30, told the Houston Chronicle after Monday's practice. "The bike I was using wasn't equipped for a 290-pound man and the seat broke off. We have purchased a new bike for the boy. I apologize for that. It's one of the coolest traditions."
