Dreaming of life on your own private island? No, really±this might be your chance. For the first time in 500 years, Deer Island in the Scottish Highlands is going up for sale. The 11-acre island will go to auction with an opening bid of $111,700, after being in the same family for more than five centuries. The island has been uninhabited for years, so you won’t have any intrusion aside from the occasional red squirrel, seal, or a sporadic dolphin.

The island at the moment is an oasis of beautiful land ready to modeled into practically anything you want. "It's rock and trees really at the moment—there's nothing on it—and never been anything [built] on it, or any application to have anything on it," the island's property manager, Stephen McCluskey, told CNN.

Private island sales like this might soon grow in popularity as more people become interested in getting away due to all the restlessness built up from being restricted during the pandemic. Just last week, a private island in the Florida Keys was nabbed up for $11 million and private island rentals have become common fixtures on travel sites.

"With something like this you get all different types of buyers—you get overseas investors, wealthy landowners, and you get the romantics who fall in love with the idea of owning a Scottish island," McCluskey told CNN.

The online auction for the island is set for March 26 and McCluskey has already reported that he has a couple of buyers interested. He expects the island to sell for somewhere between $208,00 and $278,00, despite the opening bid of $111,700.
