Anthony Bourdain's Furniture, Home Goods, and More Sold for Nearly $2 Million
UPDATE, Nov. 5, 2019: The results of Bourdain's estate auction are in, and according to Lark Mason Associates and iGavelauctions.com, all 202 items fetched prices far above their original estimates—amounting to more than $1,846,575 total. As expected, the most expensive item in the lot was Bourdain's custom Bob Kramer chef's knife, which sold for a whopping $231,250, while a personalized U.S. Navy bomber jacket hit $171,150. Other big-ticket items included a chrome duck press used in an episode of The Layover ($35,000), a vintage Danish desk by Peter Lovig Nielsen ($30,000), and a script for an episode of The Simpsons in which Bourdain appeared ($18,750).
Oct. 15, 2019: One year after Anthony Bourdain's death, the famed television personality, Netflix star, and celebrity chef's estate is officially available for auction. A portion of the proceeds (40%) from the auction will benefit the Anthony Bourdain Legacy Scholarship at The Culinary Institute of America, while the rest will support his estranged wife and young daughter.
The estate (not live on iGavel Auctions) has nearly 200 lots that Anthony Bourdain himself had personally acquired throughout his life, including some of the Parts Unknown star's most prized possessions, like artwork, books, furniture, decorative furnishings, knives, watches, clothing, and more. Because of his extensive travels, Bourdain's collection of possessions was kept quite small. "Anything that sort of made it to the home collection was something that had a real, personal significance to him, so when I look around this room, I really see so much of him. I see the things that he loved,” his assistant Laurie Woolever told CBS.
Some of Bourdain's former furniture makes up some of the highest-priced items in the bunch, including a 20th Century Peter Lovig Nielsen Teak Flip Top Desk with a current high bid of $4,600 and a Sole Makers Filing Cabinet, which is currently at $1,700.
Currently, the most expensive item on the auction list is a knife that was made for Bourdain back in 2016 by Bob Kramer—arguably one of the most famous knife makers in the U.S. Kramer's knives aren't available for purchase in stores—they're only custom made—making this piece of the auction extra special to fans of Bourdain.
