Emi Erickson is a total badass.

The big-wave charger hails from the North Shore–where she was literally born–and loves surfing enormous waves on single fins.

She's recovered from a gnarly Jaws-induced injury, won the 2019 Nelscott Reef Pro, and was invited to compete in the Eddie Aikau Invitational. But her journey to giant surf was far from the norm.

The new short film, "Beyond Sunset," offers a unique perspective into her story, and her relationship with the ocean and legendary father, Roger Erickson.

Yeti captioned the nearly half-hour film:

"It’s easy to think that she just gets it from her father. After all, Roger Erickson is a legend in his own right on the North Shore, and she rides his boards – long, single-fin guns. But when Emi is out there, charging, riding 15 to 20-foot faces, and getting rag-dolled at Jaws, she deserves for you to know that yeah, maybe it’s in her blood, but no one’s on that board but her."

In "Beyond Sunset," Erickson gets super candid about her life, and how she found her way back to the North Shore and riding huge waves.

It also features commentary from North Shore legends like Darrick Doerner, Mark Healey, and her father. The film was directed by Keith Malloy and Jeff Johnson, with contributions by Oahu-based cinematographers Dave Homcy and Ben Ono.

What's really unique about Erickson, is that she's only been surfing for about 10 years.

She told "Surfer" a few years ago:

"I came back to Hawaii when I was 17 or 18 and I boogie-boarded maxing Sunset for my first winter back and I didn't look at it as an impossible thing. I know some people have boundaries in their mind, which I just didn't have for some reason. The next winter, my dad had all these old boards under the house. He's a big-wave guy, waterman and lifeguard. I just took one out and three months later was air-dropping into waves, cracking a rib, breaking boards. It's all been crazy."
