Beyoncé Shared an Inspiring Message About "Healing" in Honor of Lemonade's 5-Year Anniversary

Beyoncé is celebrating Lemonade's legacy.
The 39-year-old singer took to Instagram this weekend to share a post about the iconic album's fifth anniversary on Friday. The accompanying visual album, Beyoncé: Lemonade (which Bey produced, starred in, and co-directed, NBD), premiered on the same day—April 23, 2016—on HBO.
"I’m grateful that this body of work has resonated so deeply with so many people," Beyoncé captioned a post that also include a gallery of eight images from the visual album. "I’m so thankful for all the beautiful souls involved in making one of my favorite pieces of art. As I celebrate five years of LEMONADE, I encourage everyone to continue healing, loving, forgiving and uplifting. I hope you find joy today."
Shortly after Lemonade was released, Bey's longtime stylist Marni Senofonte talked to The New York Times about Lemonade's stunning wardrobe and its influences, which included New Orleans, African imagery, and Victorian fashion.
"If you look at the visual album, you will see an African influence that touches on her heritage, where she comes from...Beyoncé told me that in New Orleans—I don't know what the year was—black women were not allowed to show their hair. So that's where those head wraps came from," she explained. "We were thinking about being on those plantations at the time of her ancestors and what they would have worn. At the time, there was slavery, so it wasn't about that. It was about looking at these beautiful women that came from Africa and accentuating this beautiful culture and beautiful people."
Senofonte also gave some insight into Beyoncé's inspiration boards that helped shape Lemonade's visual aesthetic.
"There was a lot of African print and gold," she revealed. "Royal, regal African images. There was a lot of white, antebellum vibes and hats and collars, vintage Gaultier and McQueen."
