Beyoncé Proves She Has No Drama With Lizzo at Atlanta Show

At her latest Renaissance World Tour stop, in Atlanta, Beyoncé gave an onstage shout-out to Lizzo—who is in the midst of a controversial lawsuit filed by three of her former backup dancers, who allege the “Truth Hurts” singer subjected them to sexual and verbal harassment.

Beyoncé’s nod to Lizzo came in the middle of her performance of “Break My Soul (The Queens Remix),” which Bey collaborated on with Madonna. The remixed version of the song features a verse in which Beyoncé lists the names of great Black female singers, including younger sister Solange Knowles, Nina Simone, Kelly Rowland, and Lizzo.

After singing Lizzo’s name, Beyoncé shouted into her mic, “I love you, Lizzo!”

The shout-out comes in the wake of Beyoncé’s August 1 show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, at which Lizzo’s name wasn’t mentioned during the performance of the song.

August 1 was also when the former backup dancers—Arianna Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Crystal Williams—filed the lawsuit against Lizzo, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., and her dance team captain, Shirlene Quigley.

The suit describe an incident in which Lizzo allegedly coerced her dancers to attend a strip club and to touch nude performers during the show. Davis also claims Lizzo shamed her for gaining weight as a result of stress eating from anxiety and depression, which she says the Grammy winner was aware of.

Lizzo has since spoken out about the accusations, via a statement posted on Instagram.

“My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous not to be addressed,” she wrote. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

The plaintiffs later responded to Lizzo’s statement. In a message shared with Bazaar.com, their attorney said, “Lizzo has failed her own brand and has let down her fans. Her denial of this reprehensible behavior only adds to our clients’ emotional distress. The dismissive comments and utter lack of empathy are quite telling about her character and only serve to minimize the trauma she has caused the plaintiffs and other employees who have now come forward sharing their own negative experiences. While Lizzo notes it was never her intention ‘to make anyone feel uncomfortable,’ that is exactly what she did to the point of demoralizing her dancers and flagrantly violating the law.”
