Beyoncé Will Offer $5K Grants to 100 People Impacted by the Eviction Crisis

Yesterday, Beyoncé's charity foundation, BeyGOOD, announced plans to offer $5,000 grants to 100 individuals impacted by the housing and eviction crisis. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to loom large over the country, millions under financial duress are potentially facing rental evictions or mortgage foreclosures.
"Beyoncé is continuing her heart of support and helping where needed most," read a statement from a BeyGOOD press release. "Phase Two of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those impacted by the housing crisis. The housing moratorium is set to end on December 26th, resulting in mortgage foreclosures and rental evictions. Many families are impacted, due to the pandemic that resulted in job loss, sickness and overall economy downturn.
"This holiday season, while many are stressed with what they will do next regarding their housing, we are proud to share some GOOD news. Beyoncé is giving $5k grants to individuals and families facing foreclosures or evictions."
Applicants must provide documents to the NAACP. The online application process begins January 7, with grants disbursed by late January. A second round of applications will also open in February.
According to the Aspen Institute, an estimated 40 million people in the United States are at risk of being evicted from their homes due to the COVID-19 housing crisis. Though the current nationwide eviction moratorium has been set to lift by December 31, Congress is expected to extend the deadline through January.
The latest BeyGOOD news comes after the foundation announced a partnership over the summer with the NAACP to award $10,000 grants to Black-owned small businesses. Later in September, she donated an additional $1 million in funds.
