Beyoncé and Meghan Markle Finally Met at 'The Lion King' Premiere

After showing mutual admiration for each other, the two queens finally met in-person.

The Duchess and the Queen finally met.

The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and Beyoncé had a genuine moment together at The Lion King’s European premiere on Sunday, after weeks of speculation that the two would have a proper meeting at the star-studded event. The evening marked Meghan’s first official film premiere as a British Royal.

Meghan and her husband, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, greeted the film’s celebrity ensemble one by one on the golden, paw-print studded carpet ahead of its national premiere on July 19. Once Meghan got to Beyoncé, the two exchanged a warm embrace with Bey herself greeting Meghan with an enthusiastic “My princess!” — that Twitter later couldn’t stop gushing about.

Footage from the carpet showed the two continuing to engage with each other — Beyoncé even asked about “beautiful” baby Archie — and fans of both women couldn’t help but notice the full circle moment the meeting represented.

Before Meghan met Harry, she was an active Instagram user and often showed her love for Beyoncé in her posts and even attended the Formation World Tour. Last year, Beyoncé and Jay Z both showed their appreciation for the new Duchess during their 2018 Brit Awards acceptance speech where they stood in front of a renaissance inspired painting of a tiara-topped Meghan — Beyoncé later Instagrammed the moment congratulating HRH on her pregnancy and how the world needed to “bow down to one of our Melanated Monas”.

The admiration and respect between these two women is undeniable. Only time will tell if this is the beginning of a beautiful — and immensely powerful — friendship.
