The late Selena Quintanilla has always been loved and admired by millions. In part 2 of Netflix's Selena: The Series, Christian Serratos portrays Selena as she continues making her mark in history as a Mexican-American superstar. Along the way, Selena crosses paths with many people, including a certain future Grammy-winning R&B singer.
In the sixth episode entitled "Lo Más Bello," a young Beyoncé Knowles is featured in a scene with her sister, Solange, and her mother, Tina. The three are leaving The Galleria mall in Houston when Beyoncé spots Selena. The Tejano music star is accompanied by her sister, Suzette, and her mom, Marcella. After Beyoncé’s mother asks her who she’s staring at and who Selena is, the Queen of Tejano Music waves to Beyoncé in passing. But Bey is so starstruck that she can only whisper a hello back.
"Beyoncé Knowles, you better learn not to be afraid of people if you ever want to be famous too,” Tina tells her daughter.

Wait, did Beyoncé really meet Selena Quintanilla?
Selena’s fans had to do a double take when they realized that Queen Bey was being depicted on the biographical Netflix show. After watching the moment in part 2 of Selena: The Series, folks couldn’t help but wonder whether Beyoncé actually saw and met Selena. The answer? Yes, she really did in the early 1990s.
In an old interview with MTV Tr3s, the Houston native recalled the real-life encounter with Selena. “I did actually meet Selena in the Galleria mall in Houston,” Beyoncé said. “But I didn’t say much to Selena because I wasn’t a celebrity and I just saw her and said hello and kept it moving.”
Beyoncé shared how listening to Selena’s music helped her in the studio, specifically with her pronunciation. Like others, she only had great things to say about the late singer. “I think she is a legend and I admire her,” Beyoncé said. “She was so talented. I’m very happy that, even though she didn’t know who I was, I’m still so excited that I got that opportunity.”
According to a 2007 interview with People en Español, Beyoncé began listening to Selena’s songs with her childhood best friend, Barbara. "I grew up in Texas and one of my good friends from there is Mexican," she told the magazine. "She turned me on to Selena's album when I was growing up and I listened to it all the time."
