Beyoncé has become one of the most powerful forces in music and style over the past two decades, but once upon a time, she was just an adorable baby like we all were.

This Tuesday, the superstar's dad, Mathew Knowles, shared a throwback photo on Instagram of Beyoncé and sister Solange Knowles when they were small children.

In the snap—a grainy digital replica of an old printed photo—the "BREAK MY SOUL" singer wears a cute blue-and-pink outfit made up of a tank top, a floral skirt, and a vibrant flower on her hair. She also wears a white scrunchy on one wrist and smiles at the camera. A baby Solange next to her looks sweet in a little frilly white dress. She hilariously waves at the camera while looking off to the side and holding a bag of Lay’s chips. The sisters stand in a grassy lawn outside of what was, presumably, their family home.

Next to the photo of his two musician daughters with ex-wife Tina Knowles, the former Destiny's Child manager shared a meaningful message about how parents should empower their children by believing in their dreams and helping them become the people they want to be.

"We need to encourage our children," he began. "I believe our young people are often more intuitive than adults in many areas. Those early passions many children possess should be nurtured and supported."

Solange has followed in her record-breaking singer sister's footsteps in the music industry, and has herself released four studio albums. The two also have a step-sister, Bianca Lawson, on their mom's side, who is an actress.

Knowles explained in his post that his mother supported his "every ambition" despite not having much money. "But as I've always been a learner and a reader, I vividly recall her buying me a set of Encyclopedia books so I could absorb knowledge and educate my young mind," he wrote. "That encouragement to learn stayed with me my entire life during my corporate career in sales and marketing, in the music industry, and even today at 71 years old where I'm still finding new things to learn and discover!"
