This classic 90s TV series is a staple for anyone who grew up in that era. Beverly Hills, 90210 is full of drama, friendship, betrayal and the on-and-off romances between the characters. The show is now considered one of the best dramas of the 1990s, the 90210 crew having a character from every stereotype — Kelly the rich girl, Dylan the loner, Donna the “dumb blonde," David the nerd — and so on.

After poor ratings during the first season, the show exploded during its second. Unlike other series that would take a hiatus over the summer, Beverly Hills 90210 aired episodes in the warmer months. Season 2 allowed viewers to enjoy the summer episodes over their own summer breaks, making the ratings skyrocket.

In 2019, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum joined his former cast members on the reboot BH90210, but the series only lasted a swift six episodes. Prior to the show’s premiere, Priestley discussed the premise of the reboot. “It’s inherently funny — a bunch of middle-aged people trying to go back and recapture the magic of their youth,” he explained. “It’s funny! It’s also a little bit tragic at the same time, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh: Beverly Hills, 90210

After her time on Beverly Hills, 90210, which was significantly shorter than that of her castmates, Shannen Doherty continued down the acting path. For a few years after, Doherty starred in multiple movies, including Mallrats (1995), Friends ‘Til the End (1997) and Striking Poses (1998).

That same year, Doherty snagged a lead role on Charmed (1998), alongside Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano. The series, which lasted eight seasons, unfortunately saw another early exit from Doherty due to drama on set between she and on-screen sister, Milano. Although many fans assumed Doherty had left the series on her own, it seems she was fired because of her costar, resulting in the death of her character at the end of season three.

Doherty went on to star in dozens of other movies, among them Another Day (2001), The Rendering (2002), View of Terror (2003) and Christmas Caper (2006). In 2008, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress reprised her character on the series’ reboot, 90210, alongside Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling.

When asked whether she would reprise her role as Brenda, Doherty thought, “Why would I play Brenda Walsh again? There was an ‘I Hate Brenda’ newsletter. Why would I possibly get myself back into that?” But of course, the actress did come back in the 2008 series, as well as the 2019 reboot.

Unfortunately, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and though she went into remission, the actress found out it had returned as stage 4 breast cancer in 2020. She is currently fighting the disease and hosting her own podcast, Let’s Be Clear.

The 90210 ‘It girl’, Jennie Garth, has been busy since the show’s ending. In 2002, she joined the cast of What I Like About You as Amanda Bynes’ big sister, Valerie. The show continued until 2006.

In 2008, Garth reprised her role as Kelly Taylor in the reboot series, 90210, as a guidance counselor and older sister to Erin Silver (Jessica Stroup). When asked by Entertainment Weekly how she felt about the reboot, Garth didn’t hold back. “I thought [Beverly Hills, 90210] had a beginning, middle, and an end,” she explained. “It was very neatly in its coffin and it was done. When they told me they were doing it, I thought: No!”

In 2014, she and her costar and best friend, Tori Spelling, starred in their own series, Mystery Girls, but it was canceled after 10 episodes. Garth too joined her former cast members for BH90210 in 2019. Most recently, she and Spelling have started a rewatch podcast for their hit series called 90210MG.
