Better Check Your Brats: Johnsonville Recalls Line of Sausages

Better check your freezer ahead of your next family cookout—Johnsonville, LLC has issued a recall of over 42,000 pounds of sausage.

The brand announced via the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service late last week that a large quantity of their ready-to-eat “Beddar with Cheddar” pork sausage links may have been contaminated with thin strands of black plastic, as reported in one consumer complaint.

The affected lots were produced on Jan. 26, 2023 and are branded with the establishment number “EST. 34224” within the USDA mark of inspection. The best-by date is July 11, 2023, and the code C35 is also printed on the back. Affected 14-oz. vacuum-packed packages were shipped to retailers in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas.

There have been no reported injuries or illnesses due to consumption of the product, but if consumers are in possession of the recalled packages, they should throw them away immediately or return them to the point of purchase.

In better food news, several brands have brought their summer menus to life. Burger King has introduced the spicy new Fiery Nuggets and the Frozen Fanta®️ Kickin’ Mango beverage, while Chick-fil-A has brought back their seasonal Peach Milkshake, as well as old favorite White Peach Sunjoy, which returns to the menu after a five-year hiatus.

Costco shoppers were also thrilled to spot the mega chain's key lime pie back on shelves earlier this month, just in time for picnic season.
