Beth Stern Gives Cat Lovers a Very Good Look

Beth Stern makes cat lovers look good.

The 44-year-old former model has emerged as one of today’s most vocal, active, and hands-on animal-rescue activists, and she uses her social media channels (her Instagram account is a cat lover’s dream) to foster and adopt out kittens and grown felines. Today she’s appearing on the inaugural Hallmark Channel production of Meow Madness, featuring 100 kitties as they compete in a faux tournament.

It’s all part of her effort to save needy pets. And she does it without sweating the superficial, like cat hair on her clothes. “You can’t let it bother you. I do have a lot of lint rollers. We keep our house very clean. Lint rollers and vacuum cleaners,” Stern, who’s been married to shock jock Howard Stern for seven years, tells Yahoo Style.

When she’s out there talking up animal rescues on TV and raising money for the North Shore Animal League, she’s super-glam. When she’s off duty, not so much. “Jeans, sweatshirt — not hot. Ponytail. No makeup. I’ll put jeans on,” she says.

At home, she and Stern have six resident cats. And, yes, he’s every bit as enamored of them as she is.

“He’s always been that way. That’s a side to him the world should see. That’s one of the things that initially bonded us, our love of animals. He’s right there with me,” says Stern.

She screens every prospective adoptive family herself (yes, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld got their cats through Stern) and does her own drop-offs. In fact, she’s about to change into casual clothes and do one on this day, after she wraps up her interview.

“It’s all about the cat. If it were not all about the cat, I’d know there is a problem. If I go to someone’s house and I can see that they only want to meet me because of my husband, we know it’s the wrong house. We’ve had over 300 adoptions, and there hasn’t been one of those,” she says.
