The Most Stylish Western Clothing for Men Who Feel a Little Bit Country
The best Western clothes for men never completely go out of style. It’s true that the trend ebbs and flows over time, but we’re living through a major Western wear resurgence thanks to popular TV shows and movies such as Yellowstone, 1883, Power of the Dog, and The Harder They Fall.
The western clothing trend is even expanding outside of where we might typically expect it and into our more general pop-culture indulgencies such as Queer Eye. The show’s most recent season took place in Austin, Texas, where the team was on a mission to makeover a range of Western and Western-adjacent candidates. It’s safe to assume that if there was ever a moment for Western clothing for men to be on display, it was in the hands of the show’s fashion expert, Tan France, as he dressed a literal cowboy in one popular episode.

How To Wear Western Clothes for Men
Keep It Simple
Unless you’re an actual cowboy, farmer or country music star, it’s safe to say you can stay away from going full-on country from head-to-toe. Start by adding an item or two to an outfit. You can easily find a belt buckle, a wide-brim hat or a good pair of western boots and nail the elements without venturing into honky-tonk costume territory. You can even wear a faded graphic tee with Wrangler jeans (a must-have brand for cowboys).
You don’t have to go all-in with a cowboy hat when choosing a hat. You can go just as Western wearing a ball cap. However, a classic Stetson is always cool to have in your closet, even if you only wear it once a year. Unless you’re attending a costume party, you want to use restraint when exploring the Western wear trend. We won’t call it cultural appropriation to try and go full cowboy, but we do think you’ll look a little silly, especially if you live in a big city.
Know Your Brands
There are a lot of brands that do Western well, but there are a handful of key brands that all other brands want to be like. Some of the best Western heritage brands include:
Ariat: As a new brand on the list, founded in 1993, Ariat represents the modern-made cowboy boot for men and women.
Carhartt: Carhartt has evolved today into a hip brand that you may see more in Brooklyn than out west, but upon its founding in 1889, it was known for heavy-duty work clothes such as coats, coveralls, dungarees and hunting apparel.
Dan Post: Founded in 1960, Dan Post is a cowboy boot company specializing in comfortable boots made using exotic skins.
Filson: Filson opened C.C. Filson’s Pioneer Alaska Clothing and Blanket Manufacturers in 1897 to outfit stampeders to the Klondike Gold Rush.
Justin: American-made in El Paso, Texas, since 1879, Justin helped set the standard for what a cowboy boot should be.
Lee: In 1925, Lee consulted with working cowboys and champion rodeo riders and introduced its cinch-back Cowboy Waist Overalls in 9-ounce denim.
Levi’s: Levi Strauss revolutionized denim and put it on the map. As a California brand founded in 1853, the idea of denim naturally moved across the west, and the rest is history.
Pendleton: With deep ties to Native American culture in 1900’s Oregon, Pendleton’s most popular designs today are based on American National Forests (very Western).
Stetson: After 150 years, Stetson is a name you drop, and everyone knows exactly what you’re talking about: iconic cowboy hats.
Tecovas: Tecovas is a Texas Western footwear startup that you would think was a part of old Texas DNA if you didn’t know better.
Wrangler: Wrangler is the only Western wear brand officially endorsed by the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association.
We could list many more brands above, but it’s time to show off some of the top picks from these staple Western brands and many others. Keep reading below for the most stylish Western clothes for men.
