All of my friends say these fun platforms are the best wedding guest shoes they’ve ever worn

It’s almost July, which means that we are in the thickest of the thick part of wedding szn. And if you have ever had to wear a pair of painful heels because they complete your wedding guest outfit, then you know just how gruesome wedding season can be. On the other end, if you’ve ever sacrificed style for comfort and wore flats that you didn’t even like for the sake of your toes, then you also understand the struggle.

In 2023, there are zero reasons why anyone has to choose between partaking in fashion trends or physical comfort, especially comfortable platforms. Lucky for you, my trusty Sisterhood of the Traveling Platforms exists, and we all share the same go-to wedding shoes: The iconic Chinese Laundry Theresa Platform Sandal.

Let me tell you, the Chinese Laundry Theresa Platform Sandal is really that girl. You know, the girl that you meet in the bar bathroom who hypes you up even though they’re an absolute stranger? Yeah, these platforms are that girl. And they’re available right now at Nordstrom.

You can grab the platforms in so many fun colors and fabrics to fit different wedding vibes.

(If you’re not a Nordstrom person, you can also grab the shoes at Zappos, Amazon and direct from Chinese Laundry. Some retailers also carry different colors of the platforms, so the shopping opportunities are endless.)

First, let’s go over the key to a good pair of wedding platforms. The actual platform has to be thick enough that you don’t feel the ground when walking. This minimizes any potential pain on the balls of your feet. Second, they need thick block heels for stability. Finally, you’re going to want something with an ankle strap. Support and stability are the goals here, which means keeping those ankles wrapped tight.

One of the reasons that the Chinese Laundry platforms are so, so good is their sheer versatility. Yes, there are tons of fun colors out there in the ether, but there is such a good variety of neutrals in different shades and textures. Take the suede nude platform pictured above. You can wear this to a summer wedding at a beach resort or a classic catering hall wedding in December.

Obviously, the true test of any good wedding guest shoe is comfort and durability. No judgment, but the last thing I want to do is change into foldable flats or flip-flops midway through the reception. Luckily, everyone I know who owns these shoes and random Nordstrom shoppers all maintain that these are comfortable as hell without sacrificing any height.

OK, you need to read this one wild five-star Nordstrom review. The shopper (who owns the platforms in three different colors) wore the shoes on a New Year’s Eve trip to Tulum, Mexico. After they “danced the night away in the jungle,” the shopper walked over a mile down a dirt road without taking off the shoes. “These babies got me home that night.”

Meanwhile, their friends had already ditched their heels and walked home sad and barefoot.

So, uh, I think that’s pretty much the most convincing story ever, right? If one person can wear these shoes all night dancing and then comfortably walk a mile home, then you know they can hold up during a wedding. Yes, even when the ceremony is (for whatever horrible reason) standing-room only.
