This Is The Best Time To Start Trick Or Treating On Halloween

You still have some time to pick out the perfect costume, but I'm of the belief it's never too early to get your Halloween plans in check. I'm talking Halloween-themed appetizers, ideas for celebrating at home and, of course, your game plan for trick or treating. If you're chaperoning a group of kids, you want to make sure they get the best candy, so here's what you should know about when trick or treating typically starts.

Although there are no *official* Halloween rules, it's safe to assume around sundown the Halloween antics can ensue. This is typical since it gives people a chance to eat their dinner and get their candy bowls in order. You can always check out the Farmer's Almanac to see when the sun is setting in your area on the night of October 31.

Of course, this information is simply a general rule of thumb so it's always important to check your local community boards to see if there are specific curfews or start times for trick or treating in your area. In the case of inclement weather and with the ongoing pandemic, knowing how your particular town is handling trick or treating is a must.

For those handing out candy, keep in mind you can signal to passerby if you're open for business by keeping your porch light on or off. Generally, when your light is off, all the witches and wizards will know you're no longer giving out candy that night.
