Antsing for a Labor Day Weekend vacation? Whether it's a girlfriends getaway or a romantic adventure you crave, you should start thinking about booking your airfare pronto.

"It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of July with the unofficial end to summer just a couple weeks away. For travelers looking to take advantage of the next long holiday weekend, you still have time," says Steve Sintra, a spokesperson for Cheapflights.com, part of KAYAK's brand portfolio. "Our data shows median airfare for Labor Day weekend doesn’t start to rise until after August 9. And, it’s the Southern cities where you can find some good deals with median airfare to Orlando, Raleigh, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach, and New Orleans all under $250 round-trip." Once airfare start to rise the week of August 12th, travelers can expect the biggest spike in prices to kick in between August 23rd and August 30th.

Cheapflights.com's data also revealed that the cheapest days of the weeks for outbound and return trips over Labor Day weekend was flying out on Saturday, August 31st with return trips on Tuesday, September 3rd, when median airfare can be found for under $250. If you're looking to duck out of town a bit early, departing on Thursday, August 29th and returning on Tuesday, September 3rd yielded median airfare upwards of $500. (Of course, for some, a few extra days relaxing with a beach read may be well worth the extra airfare.)
