Beauty is universal and so is the desire for strong, healthy hair. But the journey to soft, smooth, shiny tresses may not be easy if you are in the habit of color-treating and heat styling your hair. And while there are plenty of at-home hair treatments that work incredibly well to nourish, strengthen, and rejuvenate damaged strands, nothing comes close to the post-hair feel when you walk out of a salon.

Professional stylists have access to equipment and formulas that aren't sold over-the-counter. Plus, they can evaluate your hair's personal needs and suggest the most appropriate service. Sometimes it's worth seeing a haircare professional for an in-salon deep conditioning treatment. But which one is best for you?

Below, we share some of the most popular salon treatments for dry, damaged hair, and asked celebrity hairstylist Danielle Priano to tell us exactly how each treatment works.

Meet the Expert

Danielle Priano is a celebrity hairstylist with a client list including Jennifer Lopez, Cara Delevingne, and Adrianna Lima, among others.

Olaplex

"Olaplex is a bond-multiplying system that helps keep the hair strong from the inside out. It can be mixed with the highlighting product to make it less damaging, or used on its own as a strengthening treatment," says Priano, who adds that Olaplex works to repair damaged hair due to chemical, heat, or mechanical damage. "It works on all hair types and benefits include improved hair strength, repair from bleaching or coloring, lessened breakage, and stimulating of hair growth. Plus, there's no down time." Expect to pay between $50 to $75 for an in-salon Olaplex treatment.

Kérastase Fusio-Dose

The Fusio-Dose experience is a unique in that a machine is used to take super–up-close photographs of your hair. From there, stylists can diagnose any ailments and create a custom plan for your hair.

"Your stylist will prescribe you a treatment that can be used in place of your conditioner," says Priano. "This is a short-term treatment that works like a keratin treatment to repair damaged hair. You will see results immediately and it lasts up to about five weeks. There is no down time and this works on all hair types."

Editor-in-chief Hallie Gould had the treatment done to address her hair's dryness, breakage, and color damage. "You sit back while they massage in the treatment, and let your hair soak it all up. Afterward, I couldn't stop touching my hair. It was softer than ever before (my hair is never soft), shiny, and visibly stronger," she said. The price of a Kérastase Fusio-Dose treatment will cost about $30 in the salon.

Inphenom

"[The Milbon] Inphenom is a five-step in-salon treatment that works on repairing the cortex and outer cuticle of the hair. It restores shine and moisture, and is meant for all hair types, but in my opinion, it may be too heavy for thin hair," says Priano.

The treatment is performed right after you get your hair colored, and similar to Olaplex, Inphenom closes the cuticle of your hair to protect the color and lock in moisture, making your hair look shiny and vibrant for much longer. If you have color-damaged hair that's prone to frizz, the treatment will make an especially big difference, as it miraculously works to cut down on blow-dry time, too. In-salon prices vary between $75 to $90.

Joico LumiShine

Priano tells us that this treatment is a deposit-only ammonia-free hair creme color system. "It gives shine, color longevity, and overall healthier looking hair. If you use it as a clear hair glaze, it will give dull hair a lift. The process takes about 35 to 45 minutes. You can use it every four weeks and it can be used on all hair types," she says. The price of the Joico LumiShine treatment varies by location.

Wen Re-Moist

Wen's luxurious Re-Moist treatment is the route to choose if you want to keep the process all-natural. The 45-minute treatment is customized according to your hair's needs and uses a combo of the brand's famous cleansing conditioners, essential oils, vitamins, herbs, and vegetable color meant to heal your scalp and strands. Expect to pay around $50 for this treatment in the salon.

K18 Treatment

K18 claims to be the world's first treatment that reduces damage to your hair in only four minutes. It is often compared to Olaplex (if you're pressed for time, K18 is the faster treatment), and works to repair hair that is dry and damaged from heat, styling, and color. According to the brand, it's the K18Peptide that works to reverse chemical damage and restore strength and make hair soft again. The K18 Molecular Repair Service 2-step PRO mist + mask service is for professional use only, however, the brand does sell a leave-in mask for treatment at home. Price varies, but most salons will do the K18 treatment as an upcharge of $15 to $30 to whatever else you are getting done that day.

Cezanne Keratin

The Cezanne Keratin treatment is a formaldehyde-free treatment that uses natural ingredients to penetrate the hair cuticle and reduce frizz. The three-hour treatment (give or take depending on your hair length and texture) can work magic for all hair types, even curlier textures. Once the process is applied, it sits to process before being rinsed, blown out, and flat-ironed for optimal smoothness. The price of a Cezanne Keratin treatment varies from salon to salon, but many say that it is around the same cost as other smoothing and keratin treatments.
