The Best Room At... Wedgewood Hotel & SpaWedgewood Hotel

Vancouver, one of the most diverse cities in Canada, is distinguished by its modern architecture. That's what sets the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa, located in the city's downtown area, apart. Instead of leaning into the modern aesthetic of the city, it goes in the complete opposite direction, channeling an old world feel.

In 1984, Eleni Skalbania, an entrepreneur from Santorini, Greece, opened the Wedgewood Hotel—the first woman-owned boutique hotel in Canada. Since then, the hotel has remained in her family (it's now run by her daughters, Elpie and Marousa). The hotel features art and antiques from the family's collection, and each of the 82 rooms is uniquely decorated.

Her granddaughter, who is also named Eleni, is the property's Operations Manager and Director of Public Relations. She gave T&C a tour of the hotel, and chatted all about the unique appeal of the downtown Vancouver boutique.
