Before the building that houses the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington D.C. was a hotel, it had another life—as an incinerator. Of course, today guests might have no idea that the boutique-feeling property, just steps away from the neighborhood’s bustling M Street, had that kind of past, but this Ritz is happy to remind them. Indeed, the hotel references heat whenever possible—from its Degrees Bistro to its Fahrenheit Ballroom and Chimney Stack meeting room—and doesn’t lack any sizzle in its current incarnation, either.

Here, Tiffany Ryan, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, shares the details on her own favorite room, and sheds light on some fiery new ways the hotel is heating up the D.C. hospitality scene.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

My favorite room is our Ritz-Carlton Suite. Out of our 86 guest rooms, we have five luxury suites, and this is one of those. I love it because it’s outfitted with an oversized terrace with sweeping views of the Potomac River out onto Arlington, Virginia. Not many hotels downtown have balconies and these kinds of views, so it really sets us apart. It’s almost 2,500 square feet, and while it’s a one bedroom, it does connect to another room if guests want to make it a two bedroom. There’s a dining table that can seat eight, and an adjacent pantry that our staff can access without having to enter the suite, so we can stock it for an intimate dinner or event without being disruptive. There’s also that outdoor patio; it’s 900 square feet, so we can do receptions for up to 50 people there.

How much does it cost per night?

The Ritz-Carlton Suite begins at $6,950 per night.

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

We have a beautiful spa on property and we’re popular for friends’ weekends and couples getaways. A lot of visitors enjoy that we’re within walking distance from so many parts of Georgetown that they know and love. It’s a very walkable neighborhood, so plenty of people want to get out and explore. You can walk to M street for shopping and great dining options, or even stroll along the waterfront. We also have Ritz-Carlton bicycles that are complimentary for our guests; they’re a great way to see more of the neighborhood.

What feeling about Georgetown do you hope to impart to guests?

The hotel brings the energy of Georgetown indoors. We work with different local retailers—like Dog Tag Bakery and South Block—that can have pop-ups in our lobby and situate the property within the neighborhood. Guests will also be very pleasantly surprised to see the look of the hotel; it’s not what your traditional Ritz-Carlton looks like. We refer to the lobby as “The Living Room,” and we want people to get out of their rooms and enjoy a glass of wine or a small plate there. Every day at 5pm we serve a Baked Alaska in the living room, it’s a great way to get to know our guests and further enhance their stay. We have a wonderful culinary team that does this to connect with guests over a fun dessert that ties back to the hotel and that theme of fire. We did s’mores for a long time, but recently pivoted to the Baked Alaska.

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?

Walk along the Georgetown waterfront to the Kennedy Center. It’s an easy walk and a great way to take in some beautiful views. If guests have the time, we can charter them a boat for a leisurely lunch on the Potomac, but no matter what, being by the water is a must.
