St Anton am Arlberg is a great spot for gourmands with deep pockets. Both on and off the mountain there is a good choice of topnotch restaurants serving excellent food based on local produce. However, there are also outlets catering for families and those with less cash to flash on food.
In short, something for everyone.Regardless of price point, St Anton’s mountain restaurants boast some fabulous terraces for soaking up the views on sunny days, particularly on Rendl. In resort, there’s a broad range of cuisine on offer, from Thai to Austrian tapas.
On the mountain
The Ulmer Hütte
Originally built as an Alpinist Association Hut in 1903, The Ulmer Hütte takes pride of place in the saddle below Schindlergrat that leads towards Rauz and Stuben. The views are tremendous, making the terrace ideal for sunny days, while the interior is cosy for snowy days. The hut also sleeps 46 people in twin or four-person rooms, should you hanker after a night on the mountain.

Alber's Rodel-Alm and Robi's Rodel-Stall
Those looking for old rustic will find it at Alber's Rodel-Alm and Robi's Rodel-Stall, two mountain huts serving Tirolean classics with bags of atmosphere on the side. Located at the base of the toboggan run, the Alm is a great spot for hearty lunches on the sunny terrace. Specialities include dumpling soup, goulash, käsespätzle and Wiener schnitzel.

Rendl Restaurant
The large sun terrace at the Rendl Restaurant, known as Rendl Beach (which has its own Beach Bar and menu), is almost a reason in itself to ski on Rendl. Delicious burgers, grilled meats and seafood, and towering stir fries made with fresh, local produce are whipped up in front of you in the gleaming open kitchen.

Verwallstube
St Anton's most sophisticated (and expensive) mountain restaurant is the Verwallstube, serving startlingly good bouillabaisse, rich truffle pasta and locally-sourced game in refined yet unpretentious surroundings. Either treat yourself to lunch here, on the sunny terrace if weather allows, or save the culinary delights of chef Matthias Weinhuber for a candlelit dinner – the Galzig gondola runs on Thursday evenings especially to bring guests up to the restaurant. Dinner must be reserved in advance and the price includes the gondola ride.

The Hospiz Alm
By the base of the St Christoph chairlift foodies will find a local legend, The Hospiz Alm, which is deservedly famous for its remarkable wine cellar (accessed by a slide to avoid ski booted stair incidents), long list of celebrity fans (photographs of whom line the walls) and for its vast portions of delicious Tiroler gröstl, warming goulash soup, tender ribs and oysters. Enjoy a romantic lunch à deux on the terrace or a rowdy group affair around the large wooden tables indoors.

The Arlmont Hotel
In Nasserein The Arlmont Hotel has a slopeside cafe with a large terrace and serves excellent, well-priced local food. The Austrian tapas – small portions of traditional local dishes – served in the chic bar are ideal for après snacking while more substantial dishes are served in the à la carte restaurant in the evening.

The Skiing Buddha
In a somewhat incongruous location, in the climbing centre adjacent to the railway station, is The Skiing Buddha. Pizza and pasta is served alongside the longer established and excellent Thai cuisine - and at very reasonable prices. It also has a take-away menu.

Ooben im Mooser
Located in the eaves of a former dairy and cowshed, Ooben im Mooser offers views across St Anton through floor-to-ceiling windows, framed with reclaimed timber beams. The Museum
The gorgeous Trier villa, which was built in 1912 and is located in a snowy glade just off the blue Galzig piste houses the Museum. The villa serves as a museum by day and its intimate, oak-panelled hunting parlour, library and fireplace lounge serve as a delightful candlelit restaurant by night. Expect gourmet dining, with signature dishes which might include Wiener schnitzel made from local herb-fed pork or roasted pike perch with creamy risotto.
