Best Production Design Awarded to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ at the 2020 Oscars
And now, an ode to the behind-the-scenes masterminds.
Tonight, Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 92nd annual Academy Awards. During the ceremony, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood took home the Oscar for Best Production Design.
Other nominees in this category included The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, 1917 and Parasite. The Irishman landed an impressive 10 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (twice). Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917 also received 10 nods while Jojo Rabbit and Parasite both earned six. Talk about a pretty stacked category.
At last year’s ceremony, Black Panther took home the award. The film edged out First Man, The Favourite, Mary Poppins Returns and Roma.
The Academy first introduced the category back in 1929. Although it was originally called Best Art Direction, that all changed in 2012 when it was renamed Best Production Design.
While Cedric Gibbons (The Wizard of Oz, An American in Paris) currently holds the record for most wins (11), previous winners include The Shape of Water, La La Land, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Great Gatsby.
So. Well. Deserved.
