For most men, spring and summer are peak sneaker seasons. While some classic kicks will never go out of style, ditching lace-up sneakers for a pair of loafers is the easiest way to step up your style game without looking too formal or pretentious.

In fact, with so many men’s loafers available today from brands like Rothy’s, Cole Haan, SuitSupply and more, you’re bound to find something you like. And personally, what I love most about loafers is their versatility. You basically get two shoes in one, as they adapt more easily to different occasions than your standard sneaker.

Whether you’re going to a semi-formal event like a summer wedding or for a date night with your boo, one of these loafers fits both vibes without looking out of place.

To make shopping for the best men’s loafers a lot easier, I’ve listed my eight favorites and separated them each into defining categories:

If leather is your go-to shoe material, there are tons of options in this list that don’t look like your dad’s worn-out, frumpy slip-ons. In fact, there are so many interesting silhouettes that look really fresh and instantly update your outfit.

For instance, this Cole Haan OriginalGrand Kiltie Loafer has a slight platform for a modern touch. This detail contrasts with the classic tassel detail that, in my opinion, adds a touch of elegance, instantly making any loafer look that much more expensive.

Suede is also having a moment this spring and summer, and the Dr. Marten Adrian Snaffle Desert Oasis Suede Loafers and Suitsupply Light Brown Italian Calf Suede Slip-On are my two favorites of the season.

If practicality ranks at the top of your list, you’ll absolutely love Rothy’s machine-washable loafers. And now’s the best time to shop because the brand just added the perfect summer color to its Driving Loafer roster: Apricot!

For those who want an even more minimal silhouette with that same machine-washable element, Rothy’s brand new Ravello Loafer is a new favorite that I’m pretty confident most men will absolutely love. And, best of all, they’re extremely size-inclusive, going all the way up to a men’s 16.

Also, revisiting the topic of versatility, Suitsupply’s Dark Brown Slip-On is my personal favorite loafer for all occasions. It’s formal enough to wear with a suit to a wedding and casual enough to pair with chinos and a tee or button-down. It doesn’t get better than that!

Check out the eight best men’s loafers in more detail below.

1. Best Summer Loafer: Rothy’s Driving Loafer in Apricot, $189

If you're looking for the best men's loafer that's super lightweight and truly no fuss — just slip on and go (no socks needed) — this is the one to buy.
$189 at Rothy's

We can’t talk about the best men’s loafers without mentioning Rothy’s. When the brand first debuted its men’s Driving Loafer in 2021, the internet literally broke. In addition to being one of the few brands that design machine-washable shoes that actually look and feel high-quality, the size range was unlike anything we’ve seen before.

With sizes ranging from 7 to 16 and 12 colors to choose from, it’s no surprise that this is one of my personal favorites. The brand’s newest color (pictured above) is perfect for the spring and summer months.

2. Most Affordable: Cole Haan OriginalGrand Kiltie Loafer, $80 – $160 (Orig. $160)

It has the brand's patented Grand.OS energy-foam cushioning that comes in handy if you'll be wearing your loafers for hours on end. Also, the patent leather gives it a nice luxurious touch that instantly updates any outfit.
$80 at Nordstrom

Cole Haan is one of the OG shoe brands that’s been designing some of the best men’s loafers for decades. And it further proves that you don’t have to break the bank to score a pair of high-quality leather loafers that actually last.

This lightweight, best-selling pair is a shopper favorite.

3. Best for Large Feet: Rothy’s Ravello Loafer, $189

Inspired by coastal getaways, this minimal and super-streamlined loafer has a casual and sophisticated flair that's hard to come by. There's not a lot going on design-wise with these, and that's why I love them.
$189 at Rothy's

The Ravello Loafer is Rothy’s’ newest shoe release, and it may be one of its most comfortable to date.

They have ultra-cushy and durable insoles that make these super comfortable for all-day wear and come in 16 sizes (ranging from 7 to 16). Plus, did we mention that these are also perfect for men with wide feet and are 100% machine-washable?

4. Best Penny Loafer: Cole Haan American Classic Penny Loafer, $134.40 – $168 (Orig. $160 – $168)

They have a classic penny loafer silhouette that pairs perfectly with everything from jeans to a suit and foam-cushioned footbeds and lightweight soles for all-day comfort.
$134 at Nordstrom

You’ve likely seen the trend where men are pairing penny loafers with straight-fit or tapered jeans and white socks. If you’re going for that effortless “Sunday brunch in the city” vibe, these are the loafers to buy.

5. Most Popular: Cole Haan Gunnison Moccasin, $105 (Orig. $170)

You've likely seen these Cole Haan Gunnison Moccasins several times in your life, but that's simply because they're that much worth the hype. Unlike several other fashion trends that just need to go away and are doomed from the start, this men's loafer has been tried and true for decades.
$105 at Nordstrom

From the rawhide laces and flexible driving soles to the burnished leather finish, these loafers are some of the most durable on this list. In fact, I still have a pair that I bought during my sophomore year of college. More than 10 years later, they’ve held up excellently.

6. Top Unisex Pick: Dr. Marten Adrian Snaffle Desert Oasis Suede Loafers, $150

Chunky sole loafers are one of the trendiest ways to rock this shoe type. The elevated sole adds an effortless edge to your look, and when paired with sophisticated details like the antique gold snaffle trim and kiltie fringe, it's a match made in style heaven.
$150 at Dr. Marten

Whether you love these pale olive ones (pictured above) or prefer them in black stitch leather, these modern-vintage loafers, as I love to call them, were made with both men and women in mind. Women’s sizing ranges from 5 to 12, while men’s sizing ranges from 6 to 14.

7. Most Versatile Loafer: Suitsupply Light Brown Italian Calf Suede Slip-On, $249

These are some of the most adaptable and versatile men's loafers you'll find anywhere. And, best of all, they're a true investment piece that will last you a lifetime.
$249 at Suitsupply

While Suitsupply is known mostly for its impeccably tailored suits, tuxedos and custom menswear pieces, its shoes are one of its most treasured exports that many overlook. Specifically, the brand uses suede like no other, and these Light Brown Italian Calf Suede Slip-On Loafers prove this.

This loafer complements any look thanks to its neutral light brown supple Italian calf suede and white slip-resistant rubber sole.

8. Best Smart-Casual Loafer: Suitsupply Dark Brown Slip-On, $299

These have that luxurious Belgian-style silhouette that pairs perfectly with everything from a well-tailored suit to a pair of jeans and a plain tee.
$299 at Suitsupply

Like the Light Brown Italian Calf Suede Slip-On, these Dark Brown Slip-On loafers are the truest example of quiet luxury. The design is a more versatile and smart-casual version of Suitsupply’s stunning Black Tuxedo Slip-On loafer.

They also add a smart-casual appeal to your look that’s not stuffy or off-putting, thanks to its rubber sole. These will last you forever and will surely be your favorite purchase this year.
