The Best 'Mandalorian' Finale Theories Reddit Has to Offer

For better or worse, The Mandalorian Season Three became a home base for all conceivable Star Wars stories. But the winds are changing on Mandalore. After last week's Star Wars Celebration, we now know that a new trilogy has been set starring Daisy Ridley, a slate of new shows are currently in production, and we'll see the long-awaited Mandalorian movie.
Before all that? We need to get through this Wednesday—AKA The Mandalorian's Season Three finale date. Now, know that a massive number of characters have joined Season Three, thanks to The Mandalorian's reputation as a catch-all for Star Wars properties. Not only is Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon back, but we've met countless other Mandalorians, Carl Weathers's Greef Karga, Amy Sedaris's Peli Motto, Omid Abtahi's Dr. Pershing, Ahmed Best's wacky (but cool!) inclusion as Jedi Kelleran Beq, and even guest stars Lizzo and Jack Black as fancy, galactic diplomats. Any one of them could be involved in the Season Three finale, alongside the rumored introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn. And if you're a Star Wars head, you know that Thrawn entering the chat would be a big, big deal.
So tighten your thinking caps, dear readers, because we're entering hyperdrive to zip right to Reddit—the online planet where fan theories, good and bad, can live together in peace.
Grogu is The Mandalorian!
A popular theory, posted on Reddit by user Mulks23, suggests that The Mandalorian actually refers to Grogu—and not Din Djarin.
Theory: "The Mandalorian" refers not to Din, but to Grogu. I believe the entire objective of the story is how Grogu becomes a part of the Mandalorian family, helping them regain their past fame.
This theory would follow prior Star Wars naming conventions such as The Last Jedi—which actually referred to Luke Skywalker—even though Rey becomes the true, last Jedi following his death. Grogu chose to travel the world with Djarin instead of Luke in The Book of Boba Fett, so he will now train to be a Force-using Mandalorian instead of a Jedi. Badass.
Mando: Infinity War
This theory, posted to Reddit by anakinistic, prays for our Mandalorian hero to unite all of the Star Wars-verse against Gideon. I don't know if it'll take that much to defeat a guy they already whooped once before, but I imagine fans would lose their minds if everyone showed up.
Din has made a lot of friends with connections. R5 calls to Pelli Motto which pulls in Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and Cobb Vanth, Carson Teva which pulls in Adelphi squadron, Zeb brings in Ghost squadron, Hera and Sabine bring in Fenn Rau, Leia, and it grows from there. This is the big surprise - when all hope seems lost for the Mandalorians - Leia, Luke, Han, Lando, and Chewie on screen together again. Everyone comes together to fight the imps.
Chewbacca seems like the Star Wars character most deserving of a cameo following the original trilogy. Sure, he had a few standout moments in the latest round of films, but he never got to fight that evil Wookie from The Book of Boba Fett.
The Dragons Come for Star Wars, Too
Dragons are all the rage over at HBO, so why not have them fly into Star Wars mythology as well? According to theorist PureBeskar, the Mythosaur—a monster highly talked about in whispers throughout Season Three—will make another appearance in the finale.
A Mythosaur is awoken in the finale. It chases everyone around and causes a bunch of trouble before it is brought under control. Bo-Katan will get a "Mythosaurian" armor.
It was looking more and more likely as the season progressed that Bo-Katan would be an ally—and not the main villain. She's currently leading the charge to reestablish Mandalore, has possession of the Darksaber, and will likely kill the Mythosaur to further claim her rightful rule. Whether or not that will stick is up to Season Four.
Grogu, You're My Hero
Here at Esquire, we've got some ideas of our own as well. Our editor, Brady, wrote in last week's episode recap that our little Grogu is due for a big Season Three moment among all these helmets.
You can expect more 'Mandalorians assemble!' moments, as they work out a rescue plan—and likely the extraction of Dr. Pershing and Elia Kane to Moff Gideon's digs on Mandalore. By the end of it all, I bet the Season Three finale will see the reversal of Season Two's ending: Grogu will save Mando from Gideon's clutches. The kid hasn't really had a hero moment this season!
Anything that features more Grogu is OK in my book. After Paz's death, I'm sure series creator Jon Favreau (who also voiced Paz) will want some revenge. The Mandalorians are the heroes of our story—no matter how wacky their creeds and rules are—and Moff Gideon has decided to threaten their home. It's not the best idea to challenge a group of people who don't take off their armor and train to kill their entire lives, but maybe Gideon has to learn that the hard way. We'll see how it all plays out when director Rick Famuyiwa returns to direct this season's final episode of The Mandalorian.
