Quick Overview

It goes without saying that the beauty space is pretty oversaturated. With so many makeup brands out there, specifically, it’s hard to find one that delivers on all fronts and, best of all, is actually (and authentically) shopper-recommended.

The folks at booking app Hey Goldie recently conducted a study to find the most popular makeup brands in the country, and the results may be surprising to some!

They analyzed over 60 different makeup brands in the study, considering average Google searches for the United States and Instagram posts containing the brands’ names. They divided the sum of this data by the number of years each brand’s been around, and the results led to the 2013-rounded beauty brand Huda Beauty being crowned the most popular makeup brand in the country.

Anastasia Beverly Hills, known for revolutionizing the brow industry, came in second place, and the Rihanna-founded Fenty Beauty rounded out the top three. MAC Cosmetics and Morphe, respectively, rounded out the top five, with MAC being the oldest brand in the prestigious list, having been founded in 1984.

Keep scrolling to learn more about the brands and what each brand’s No. 1 best-selling product is right now, with prices starting at just $17 and going up to just $39.

1. Huda Beauty

Iranian-American businesswoman Huda Kattan founded Huda Beauty in 2013 out of disappointment in the quality of false eyelashes sold on the American market. She eventually made her own, and this massive attention propelled her brand to where it is today, with its products exclusively sold at Sephora.

While lash products kickstarted the brand’s initial appeal, its Liquid Matte Ultra-Comfort Transfer-Proof Lipstick remains one of its top sellers to date.

Shoppers love its matte finish, long wearability, fragrance-free and full-coverage formula that literally doesn't budge. It's safe to say that Huda Beauty is one of those makeup brands that only continues to win.

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills

Founded in 1997 by the brand’s namesake. Romanian-born Anastasia Soare, Anastasia Beverly Hills, is one of the most recognizable and respected beauty presences in the world.

While its product roster has since expanded to eyeshadow palettes, foundations, concealers and more, its eyebrow products remain its bread and butter. In fact, millions swear that it’s still the best brow-focused makeup brand to ever exist.

The brand’s iconic Brow Wiz, which comes in 12 shades, remains its best-selling product.

3. Fenty Beauty

The Rihanna-founded Fenty Beauty is the youngest brand on the list, yet it remains one of the most impactful. Starting out in 2017, the brand is one of the first of a series of celebrity-led beauty companies and today stands as one of the few that’s actually sustained.

Many remember when the brand shook the beauty world with its foundation’s extensive and thoughtfully selected shade range that provided diverse shades for various deep and rich complexions.

While its all-star foundation remains one of the most frequently purchased to date, its star product is its Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer.

Available in seven shades, it's considered the ultimate juicy gloss that actually lasts throughout the day and simultaneously moisturizes the lips.

4. MAC

The Canadian makeup brand MAC Cosmetics was founded 39 years ago by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. It’s since become synonymous as the sole beauty brand that’s transcended generations, with grandmothers, mothers and daughters all having a favorite MAC product they hold dear.

While MAC’s matte lipstick has been one of its all-time product staples throughout the years — who can forget Ruby Woo? — its Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation was the sole pressed powder foundation on the market for decades.

With over 50 shades, this one-step powder and foundation hybrid was a favorite for makeup veterans and newbies because it was easy to use and apply. And best of all, it leaves an ultra-matte finish that lasts for a whopping 12 hours.

5. Morphe

Rounding out the top five is the 2008-founded Morphe Cosmetics, founded by Chris and Linda Tawil. The makeup brand, known mostly for its eyeshadow palettes, brushes and celebrity collaborations, has a wide product range that pretty much covers all bases.

Its cult favorite, Continuous Setting Mist, however, has been an influencer and beauty guru favorite for years.

It's become so popular that the brand had to create a jumbo size to meet the incredible demand.
