The Best New Groceries to Hit Shelves This February

Was it just me or did January feel like it lasted six weeks this year? I know that the post-holiday blues are real, but this month seemed exceptionally long and brutal. Now that February’s here, spring is just on the horizon and Valentine’s Day is around the corner.

That also means new grocery items: chocolates (of course), pints of ice cream, celebratory cakes for Lunar New Year, and even a springy salad kit that felt like a brief respite from this winter slump. Here are some of the new grocery items launching in February that I’m excited about — and you should be, too.

1. Moshi White Peach & Yuzu Sparkling Water

Yuzu’s tart, citrusy flavor makes for the perfect addition to sparkling water, especially when paired with fragrant and sweet white peach. This refreshing can from Moshi contains 15% juice and has simple ingredients. It definitely leans heavier on the yuzu flavor — which almost tastes a bit salty among its sourness — but I actually like that aspect of it a lot. It’s not syrupy and does not taste artificial or like ‘essence’ the way other sparkling waters might. Have it straight from the can or use it to top off a spritz.

2. Patagonia Provisions Sourdough Sea Salt Organic Crackers

Patagonia Provisions, known for its stellar line of tinned seafood options, has released a new line of crackers that make the perfect accompaniment to its smoked mussels, lemon pepper salmon, and spicy anchovies. The sourdough sea salt is my favorite because of its simplicity. It’s a sturdy enough cracker to stand up to dips and canned seafood and has plenty of flaky salt that plays well with the tart, punchy flavor of the sourdough base. The bonus is that it’s made with regeneratively farmed wheat free from pesticides and the crackers themselves have no preservatives.

3. Rudi’s Gluten-Free Egg & Cheese Frittata with Bacon Breakfast Sandwiches

Rudi’s latest is a frozen breakfast sandwich that takes minutes to prepare and boasts a buttery, gluten-free brioche bun, fluffy square of egg and cheese frittata, and bacon that actually crisps up if you chuck it in the air fryer. All that to say that it’s a hearty and quick breakfast option that actually tastes balanced and substantial. There are two sandwiches to a box and there is an English muffin version, although that iteration leans on the dryer side.

4. Health-Ade Strawberry Vanilla SunSip

Kombucha brand Health-Ade has rolled out its new interpretation of sodas, complete with prebiotics, vitamins, and two grams of fiber per can (aka 7% of your daily value). The strawberry vanilla is a favorite of mine, with a balanced blend of tart strawberry and floral vanilla that feels like a fun twist on a classic cream soda. This is a great in-between for someone who wants to get into kombucha, but can’t move past the vinegar-forward flavor. If you’re worried about the artificial sugary taste that stevia sometimes has, fret not: there’s no stevia in this formula and the monk fruit and cane sugar taste like a true can of pop.

5. Sugar Bowl Bakery Mango Cakes

Get your hands on these mango cakes from Vietnamese-owned Sugar Bowl Bakery just in time for Têt — or Lunar New Year. These soft, individually wrapped cakes have a robust mango flavor with actual chunks of mango in each bite and are buttery and moist. Mango-flavored items, for me, often taste cloying, but these cakes feel tame in their sweetness. They taste especially great paired with a bitter cup of green tea or coffee.

6. Ben & Jerry’s PB S’more Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream

Marshmallow as an ice cream base sounds like it’d be too sweet, but the experts at Ben & Jerry’s know how to strike a balance with mix-ins. This new peanut butter s’more pint is both sweet and salty, with plenty of chopped peanut butter cups, crunchy graham cracker bits, and gooey marshmallow swirls. Because the ice cream flavor is toasted marshmallow, there’s an added layer of roasted nuttiness that complements the addition of peanut butter perfectly. It’s a delicious scoop as is, but can definitely be amplified with hot fudge and a sprinkling of salted peanuts.

7. Jeni’s Banana French Toast Ice Cream

In honor of “ice cream for breakfast day,” which lands on the first Saturday in February, Jeni’s whipped up this new banana French toast flavor. It is a combination of everything I love in ice cream form: The ice cream begins with a custardy banana base swirled with sticky maple syrup. For added texture, pieces of cinnamon-sugar French toast “gravel” are woven throughout. This ice cream is only available for a limited time, so if you’re a fan of bananas and a supporter of ice cream for breakfast, make sure to pick up a pint ASAP.

8. Kraft Singles Caramelized Onion Slices

American cheese is my favorite cheese on burgers and in grilled cheeses because of how well it melts, so I was excited to see Kraft roll out three new flavors of its nostalgic, plastic-wrapped singles. There’s garlic and herb, jalapeño, and, my favorite of the bunch, caramelized onion. The caramelized onion cheese tastes like animal fries from In-N-Out: sweet, toasty, with a mellow allium-finish. Pairing this cheese with actual caramelized onions in a grilled cheese would be divine.

9. Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Candy Pieces

Justin’s is known for its nut butters, which eventually found their way into nut butter cups. Now, the brand is launching candy pieces — one filled with peanut butter and the other with whole peanuts. The candies come in muted shades of purple, orange, and red and feature buttery peanuts enrobed in a sweet and bitter dark chocolate that are coated in a satisfyingly crunchy candy shell. If you love peanut candies and dark chocolate, this would be a perfect gift to yourself or a Valentine.

10. BrightFarms Mediterranean Crunch Kit

Salad kits aren’t typically my go-to during colder months, but this Mediterranean-inspired box from BrightFarms was so vibrant and herbaceous that it left me dreaming of an impending spring. The crunch part in the name is no joke; this kit includes roasted lentils and crispy flatbread pieces, which add a lot of texture to each bite. The punchiness of both feta cheese and feta vinaigrette balanced out the mellow base of lettuce. It’s definitely delicious on its own, but I spruced my kit up with kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers.
