The start of summer usually means that people reach for the more relaxed pieces in their closet, whether it be a breezy sundress or a linen suit. Of course, that’s not a total rule of thumb, and if anyone’s going to bend expectations, it’s Rihanna. The bad gal herself added a touch of drama to an otherwise everyday outfit comprised of a pair of blue jeans and a plain white T-shirt by wearing a sheer lavender dress on top of it all. She carried a matching little marabou purse, to boot.

Other celebrities this week followed Rihanna’s more-is-more approach. Chloë Sevigny posed in a floral print Marc Jacobs gown that resembled a charcoal drawing (with some festive feathers thrown in for good measure), and Gabrielle Union was smiling from ear to ear in her bathtub decked out in a skirt with some serious black-and-white plumage. Not to be outdone, Taraji P. Henson’s already standout baby pink suit jacket got a glitzy boost by way of an elaborate crystal-entrusted trim.
