The Best SNL Sketch Last Night Had an Incredible Twist

One of the effects of Donald Trump's presidency is that it seems that consequences don't exist anymore. Trump can pay off a pornstar after an affair, be loudly and obviously racist, and blow millions of taxpayer dollars on golf trips without Republicans turning on him. So with that in mind, SNL asks, what even matters anymore?

Host Jessica Chastain emcees a game show where contestants have to guess what the president would have to face some kind of backlash, from past events to future hypotheticals. Like, for example, what if Trump fires Robert Mueller?

Cecily Strong: I'm gonna say yes, that would matter, that's a clear line that he'd be crossing.

Chastain: Oh, so close. You were right that it would cross a line, but you were wrong to think that it would matter in the least. Republicans would just shrug and mumble something about Hillary's emails.

For the final round, the contestants have 30 seconds to write down a scenario that they think would cause consequences for Trump (while Chastain shotguns a bottle of white wine like a pro). Keenan Thompson's answer is probably one that would cause the president the most headaches ("sex tape with Don Jr.") but ultimately, everyone's just worried about Jessica Chastain.

SNL doesn't deliberately break the fourth wall very often, which is good because that would lose its charm quickly, but this is the rare sketch that's stronger and funnier for it.
