The red carpet ain't dead yet. Not that the universe at large isn't clearly pitted against it, doing just about everything it can to suck the air out of awards season. Not that we aren't—still!—dealing with a pandemic. Not that we don't have to reckon with the very, very many things wrong with the institutions that dole out industry awards in music and movies and TV. We are, and we do. But despite the better efforts of a less-than-beneficent cosmos, here we are, watching the 2021 edition of the Grammys. There are songs! There are stars! And, circumstances be damned, there is style!

It's on the red carpet, even, where guys like Anderson .Paak and Bad Bunny and Harry Styles are turning out looks that suggest the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel is even closer than we might have thought. How else, after all, do you explain the optimism of Harry's lemon-yellow plaid jacket or .Paak's opulent tailoring (both by Gucci, by the way)? How do you account for the cool-guy insouciance of the bow-tied closure on the Dior jacket worn by Black Pumas' Eric Burton? Or the restrained-but-supremely-rad lineup of looks from Louis Vuitton on BTS? How, for that matter, do you explain Bad Bunny holding a sunflower, looking for all the world like he's beseeching you to take the flower—just take the flower!—and stop worrying for a while?
