If you were to ask me what the best candle is for winter, I would be able to answer you without even thinking twice. Easy, it's Diptyque Narguilé.

After my smokey seasonal favorites and citrus burns are tucked away in my candle closet after the holidays, I yearn for warm enveloping scents that make me feel cozy and wrapped up in my humble studio apartment. I'm a little crab happiest in her shell, you see. Ambiance is important. And that means that I almost always have a candle lit while I work from home. It's just the smallest of comforts and luxuries.

And here I must make a very crucial distinction. My favorite candle from Diptyque, much like Meghan Markle, is their tuberose scent. That is the scent I most favor in my perfume, and this candle offers the very best that the milky white flower has to offer year round. But when it's cold and dark and depressing, there's something about opening up a fresh Narguilé at the beginning of January that makes the short, dark days feel a little less grim.

It all comes down to the scent. Narguilé is more masculine, but not overly musky or spicy. Instead its notes have this inviting warmth. You get a waft of honey, tobacco leaves, and a touch of spice—the kind of smell you envision yourself surrounded by while wrapped in a cashmere blanket in an expensive home library. If you close your eyes you can even hear the fireplace crackling. But I digress. And the scent throw is good too; it fills my whole apartment with just an hour burn and the smell lingers long after its extinguished.

I almost always have a fresh one to whip out the second the clock strikes midnight on January 1. Pro tip: this candle makes a great housewarming gift too.
