These Are the Best Camp Spots for RVs in the U.S.

RV Trader shared its favorite camping spots across the nation, broken down by region.

When you’re driving across the nation with your home in tow, you can pull over and sleep just about anywhere. But as any experienced RVer will tell you, there’s a big difference between staying the night parked in a parking lot and finding a campground in a beautiful location with just the right amount of sun and shade — plus amenities like water, electricity, and a dump station.

The folks at RV Trader, a marketplace for selling and buying new and used RVs, know first-hand what makes a campground great. They shared their favorite camping spots across the nation, broken down by region: Northeast, South, Midwest, and West.

To come up with the top contenders in each area, they evaluated campgrounds based on factors like location, convenience, scenery, climate, nearby attractions, and RV-friendly amenities. Below are their favorite RV camping locations in each region, along with a recommendation for a standout campground.

Northeast: Springfield–Holyoke, Massachusetts

RV Trader recognized the Springfield Metropolitan Area as a stellar place to set up camp. The area offers RVers both easy access — it's just over 1.5 hours from Boston — and solitude, with plenty of natural scenery.

Sodom Mountain Campground in Southwick, Massachusetts outside Springfield was RV Trader’s top pick. The campground has on-site hiking trails, a swimming pool, and pet-friendly sites, along with full hookups and access to laundry and hot showers. When you need more civilization, you can enjoy the cuisine, nightlife, and museums found in the neighboring cities of Springfield and Holyoke.

South: Tampa–St. Petersburg–Sarasota, Florida

The Greater Tampa Bay Area, which includes the coastal cities of St. Petersburg and Sarasota, is a favorite for RVers, especially in the winter. The region’s year-round sun is only topped by access to sugar-sand beaches and warm waters.

Campers can’t say enough about the St. Petersburg/Madeira Beach KOA Holiday, which is located just minutes from the Gulf’s iconic white-sand beaches. The campground has RV sites with patios, full hookups, two hot tubs, a heated outdoor pool, and access to the Long Bayou inland waterway.

Midwest: St. Joseph, Missouri

A road trip through America’s Heartland is synonymous with the open road and warm welcomes. And no place exemplifies these qualities more than St. Joseph, Missouri, which was RV Trader’s No. 1 Midwest pick.

The city’s AOK Campground & RV Park is a family-owned affair with its own maze of hiking trails, along with a couple of fishing ponds. There’s a volleyball and basketball court, along with a playground for the kids and a dog park for the pups. An outdoor pool rounds out the offerings. Off-site, campers can check out the local breweries, restaurants, and shops of St. Joseph.

The AOK Campground & RV Park’s amenities include electricity, WiFi, and laundry.

West: Los Angeles

Los Angeles was RV Trader’s top pick in the Western region of the United States. The coastal city has a warm and sunny climate, resulting in year-round RVing, along with the perks that come with being close to a city: entertainment, shopping, and dining.

The company called out Dockweiler RV Park in Playa Del Rey. The campground is the only RV campground directly on the beach, providing overnight guests with a fresh, ocean breeze and an ocean view that runs from Malibu to Catalina Island. Beyond its stellar location, the RV park offers full hookups, hot showers, and laundry. Each campsite also has its own grill and picnic table. Nearby, campers can visit Venice Beach or The Getty.
